CL-S theft concerns with double din installation
I was planning on installing an aftermarket double din navi in my car, but was worried about theft. Have anyone experience good or bad luck..please share your experience
Tint is your best friend if your worried.
And the factory alarm will draw attention so most the time a thief will only tolerate the alarm for only so long before fleeing.
"unless you parked somewhere you shouldn't of parked in the first place".
I have a 2 din dvd/nav and no tint on the front extra tv's and subs threw my back seat.
If I get jacked I personally would be 50/50 pissed and not caring.
full coverage with $3,000 extra on my insurance for that type of thing.
got a shoe box full of slips for my gold digging CL.

I never had anyone attempt to steal anything off of my CL although i did have my backpack stolen out of it. I had my college books, calculator,iPod, and a couple of other things.
But as far as the navi goes, i guess it depends on where you live but in my area, the CL didnt attract to much atterntion.

what do you guys think of a retactable single din..same amount of attention. i live in the city, not the best area, but it's urban living. i was worried because i keep my car cleaned and about 1 week ago i see 2 hand prints of what looks like someone leaning in to look inside the car.
A single din flip will just look like a aftermarket cd player.
Still looking aftermarket and a quick buck for a thief anyway.
If it's a bad area,it's not going to take much.
Unless they have a DVD player that looks like the old Kenwood that had the stealthy disappearing face.
Now that would be right up your alley.

You can get double din JVCs that actually have a removable faceplate if theft is your largest concern. Dont do a single din flip out because they suck and it would be more eye catching IMO. Our dashes are such a bitch to take apart compared to other dashes that seeing how hard it is to get out should be enough of a deterrent for the would be thief.
Trust me, it takes a lot of time to remove the stereo from a CL if you put it in correctly. I can remove my Benz radio in about 5 minutes whereas the CL takes about 25. When a thief doesn't have time, they usually destroy the unit. (My sister is an insurance adjuster)

If a thief suspects or sees something, and they want it, they will try to get it, best option for you is to do a stealth install or make some kind of plate to cover the radio when you're not in it so it looks stock
Most thieves hate double DIN radios for the simple fact that they're hard to sell on the street, because they will not fit in most cars. I had an older JVC DD from years ago that never got touched--I even left my window open by mistake in a really crappy hood. But thieves go for east targets with quick payoffs. Tint those windows, get a shock sensor!!!

Another thing, not many know about the CL. Keep it low key and you want get any unwanted attention.
When you get close to your destination, turn the volume down. Dont announce your presence.
as much as i'm concerned about loosing the radio, it's the damage they will do to get to it. the eclipse has the ESN security so i know it will have a harder time with it, but the damage might cost more than the radio itself. i only have liability insurance which is about $70 month, compared to full coverage at around $250. the car has over 130k miles so didn't want to put more money into insurance..anyhow i park on the streets. will get an alarm soon, but is there anyway ideas to make the double din look more oem.
