so i get on the freeway and check my mirrors and blindspot, i change lanes, secure my lane, 10 seconds later i see the car in the lane next to me slam in to me the same way that the police do the pit manuver, she hooks me and i fly accross the divider as u can see from picture 3 thats exactly where i ended up! i flew almost into oncoming traffic! look how far i am in relation to the pos that hit me! she tried to say it was my fault! there is no scrape marks as u can see which shows she hit me with a direct impact! is there anyway that they can say it was my fault? i have liability which scares me, and also im worried if that fucked up my tranny in anyway? it drives clean still no airbags deployed, the only damage is the quarter panel. even the gas door is cherry bumper covers lights etc are all untouched......should i be worried about the tranny? im scared because of the problems that have occured with the cl....

this accident can not affect your tranny for sure. but for me it really hard to say whos fault is this... to me looks like you were changing the line and you hit her. i can not imagine how she could hit you if you were at the front of her...

that sucks. i think a new panel is around 900 online or around 1200 from dealer plus labor and paint which will also be alot. From a good shop i would guess 2-3k but could be more.

If he spun and started rolling backwards, the tranny could get fucked up, but the engine would be the bigger problem (as it would spin backwards).

in addition to the obvious damage you prolly have flat spots on your tires if you skidded and if you went into the median you prolly have some suspension damage as well.

if you checked your blind spot and merged she prolly was doing 1 of two things

1. next lane over and was changing lanes as you were

or

2 she was hauling ass (most likely imho)

there have been multiple times where I have had to punch it when merging because of some asswipe that is trying to get in front of everyone else. Thankfully the S can pile on the speed quickly and I get out of the way....

if he rolled backwards he was most likely idling the engine and yes the trans will roll backwards even when in drive and it will not harm the engine cause if he had any throttle on the engine while in drive, he would have just skidded.....

Wait, so OP were you merging from an on-ramp? Or just changing lanes? Which lane did you last change on to? Right lane or left lane?

EDIT: Nevermind, reread your post. Did you come in that ramp in the pic? If so, that's a hell of a lot less than ten seconds, travelling at 50-60 mph.

Assuming he's AT, the only thing that MAY be effed up is the tq converter. That would spin "backwards", not the engine. The engine was probably idling all the way through haha

Judging from the skid marks, I don't think he would've flat-spotted unless he was completely locked up, which is nearly impossible because of ABS. If your car is not facing exactly 90 degrees to your direction of travel, your wheels will be rotating, even just a little bit.

i could see some beanheads quoting 6 for that job

But honestly if u knew someone who was honest/legit my guess would be right around 3.

my buddy in his cobalt had the same thing happen to his car all down the drivers side and my guy fixed it for 1300. SO I am POSITIVE u could find it for 3K or less done .

Sorry about the incident tho. I still don't have my CL back after my accident and it's been like 5 WEEKS!!!! so it could always be worse

He left skid marks on the pavement and if you are leaving skid marks that means you are putting flat spots on your tires. ABS does absolutely nothing when you are in a skid so either VSA was defeated (ie the computer determined that it could not correct for the skid and therefore did not try), the VSA was off, or he has a stick

Man I went to an auto body shop a few weeks ago, hoping to get a few dings out of that same panel (except on the passenger side) and the place quoted me at $1400 for it. But that was just a few dings and dents. Not to mention the place I was quoted at, was known for being pretty spendy (but doing great work).

So honestly I'd say about 2800 - 3300 or so. Ballpark estimate.

Person changing lanes will be at fault...unsafe lane change...unless she said something stupid to the officer who took the report...quarter panel damage is going to be expensive...sorry brother

Not necessarily? How do you explain burnouts? Plenty of skid, no flat-spotting.

you really did not ask that question did you? can you please go back and think that over?

skid = when the car is sliding on it's tires, not when you are stationary smoking the front tires........
