CL-P vs. VR6 Jetta

So im driving to work this morning north on I-5 between Vancouver and Portland, rolling about 80 in the fast lane, when some ass clown in a Silver VR6 jetta started flashing his lights at me from behind. I got over and pulled up next to him, rolled down my window, gave him a glare and put my foot to the floor. I was out like a trout, next thing I knew I was doing 110 and he was just a blip in my rear view. he couldent even attempt to keep up with me, all he ever saw was my tail lights once my VTEC hit..........people in jettas who think they are fast..lol

I/h/e/tb spacer/pullies/ recently tuned with my new neo
from a stop I know it would have been a good race, but my top end power is nuts since my vtec kicks at 4800. He had no chance

(New Guy)I must say I have street raced a Mustang GT and a Camaro SS in my CL-P and had em by a head light on the street but the one car to call me out was a Jetta. (not sure if it was a 1.8 turby or a vr6) we race to an on ramp and it involved acceleating in the turn but his jetta was quick but I just got the car at the time and am still learning the secret to the seq. shift. so i just move it to D3 and i find it hauls ass alot better. Any tips incase I have another run in??

theres no way a acura CL-P would even keep up with a mustang gt(unless it is old as shit) and any camaro SS 90+ would destroy a CL....they couldn't have been racing.

As for racing the jetta. Turn VSA off and use the SS mode and you should have em unless its a newer VR6

The car I raced was a 2002ish, not the new body style but not the late 90's square one. So theres no unless about it sucka, I worked his ass all the way down I-5

To the new guy, my advice is to save your money for mods, in my stock cl-p I wouldent race anyone. After I /h/e I got a tad more cocky, but since the neo and the tune the car runs pulls so hard that its a little crazy.

Got this from a thread on the board
-------------------------------------------------------
0-60 Times
Jetta 1.8T = 7.7 (M), 8.9 (A)
Jetta VR6 (2.8L) = 7.8 (M)
3.0CL = 7.6 (A)
3.2CL = 7.2 (A)
3.2CL-S = 5.9 (M), 6.7 (A)

Really, none of the Jettas should beat any CL. They could keep up if the drivers of the manual Jettas are as good as the test track drivers.

i know; i'm just skeptical of the the GT and the SS, since both cars run 0-60's in the mid 5's. Don't get me wrong, i love my CL-Pee, but i would never mess with a Stang or Camaro

i raced a turbo golf last night. didnt do too bad. i had him from second til about fourth, mostly cause our gear ratios suck. but he barely ever so slowly walked away...i was proud, even though it was a loss

As far as the GT and SS sorry but it happened. The drivers aren't test track drivers so let's not give the operators to much credit they were kids my age 25/26 year olds that are all proud and cocky of the american traditional sports cars which is all cool with me. The camaro I raced till about 110 in phoenix where the traction is good and the tires are sticky. His take off was horrible. And shifts were bad but he did not pass me like I thought he would. around 105 he started to move from my trunk to mid door but he had to slow down because a car was in front of him. Call it luck or bad driving but it is what it is.

The GT was a short races it involved a merge from three lanes to a two lane. the slower car usually backs off and I heard rumors about em so I tried it and in about an 1/8th of a mile to the next light we were even steven with him having to back off.

Believe it or not that's what happen. I also tend to drive in automatic drive 3 so the car stays at maximun rpm even better than stick mode. I also races a 01 328 and walked away from him too.

I also raced a my coworkers 05 vette and he smoked me (to show my humbleness).

I'm not afraid to admit that I lose anything but not a liar as far as the two cars go.

Gotta admit in those situation that it made me alittle more confident in the car
Maybe the car isn't a racer but its peppy. on that you guys aren't showing confidence in your whips (to the nay sayers).

Jettas aren't slackers but ill try to race one again.

And try auto 3 it works makes take off much quicker!

ss was 99ish and gt was 00ish. My point isn't to say I smoked em just saying that they probably didn't give our car enough credit and in there lack of estimation they got the feelings hurt.

Have fun!

jettas can be pretty quick. depending on trim.
older gen VR6 GLIs are 200+ hp and lighter than a CL-Pee.
The new turbo ones are easily chipped to well over 250.
