Check Engine Light? Where to read

Hey Guys,

I got a Check Engine light. No tranny problems thank god. But there is really no way to find out what is wrong unless I get the code read, or so I hear. Where can i get this done without having to visit the dealer(bad experiencess). Also where do they plug into that scan tool. Thanks

Peter

Some places like autozone will read the code for free (they figure you'll buy parts from 'em, if they tell you whats wrong).

Call around. You should find someone with a code reader.

Yeah still under warranty, maybe i should just take it to acura, but if i take it to autozone, and get the code, you guys can prob tell me what it says right? I just don't like going to the dealership cause we have a bad relationship and PAA is a drive, and I'm only gonna be in NY for days. But maybe i'll drive down, we'll see

Why even bother getting some place to check the code? Just go to a dealer and have them take care of it, since you are still under warranty. Unless, of course, you've got NOS or something and are worried that it's causing the problems.

Well yeah sure if it is a engine code yes they can tell you .But most places only have the engine codes if it is anything else then they are likley not to have a code reader that will diag it .Besides if the light is on it would be warranty so what is the point of going to Autozone have them tell you what (if they can) the code is then come here post it we tell you what the problem and then you will have to go to a dealer to get it fixed anyway ?Seems like a long way to go .
