S FLA Radar Question.

I turned off X band, the detector seems to work better i guess because it has to sweep between less frequencies.

But my question is Does any Fla cops use X.

When I had a detector it seemed x was only from Publix or banks. I think they do laser and airplanes. Go Fish!

Yes, but only used by rural poorer local police departments. Never county, or state cops. For example: about 2 weeks ago I was doing some low level flying through Okechobee. About 5 miles (literally 5 miles) outside of Okechobee my 8500 started going crazy. My first thought was, "Can't be real way out here in the middle of no where, especially on X band". However, my radar detector persisted. When I finally got to the out skirts of Okechobee there was a local cop with one of those old type guns mounted to his drivers side sill just blasting away. Not only was his radar gun anchient, but he was sitting in about an 8 year old Chevy Caprice cop car. I haven't seen a Caprice cop car in ages. It's been Ford Crown Vics in Florida for at least a decade. Anyway . . ... is 5 miles enough warning for you? After 5 minutes of warning I was almost lulled into a false sense of security!

Really?

I have X turned off on my V1 for over a year. Had X turned off on the 8500 I used to have before that. KA is big with troopers, K, & laser are big with those bike cops.

Yes, really! My brother is a Deputy Sheriff for Highlands county. We go over this type stuff all the time. However, as mentioned you'll only see X band in rural areas and the poorer city's limits. If you always drive on Interstates, A and B class roads you'll never see X band. That trip I took through Okechobee was the first time I've seen X band in about 10 years.

Yeah, I'm sure. The odds are very low. You have to be out in the boonies at the same time the cops happen to be shooting. As I mentioned it had been 10 years since I was last shot at with X band. It's like what my brother says. X band has come full circle and is now in the cops favor. People have either shut it off, or they don't believe it when their radar detector calls it out. That almost happened to be at Okechobee. The detector had been alerting for so long I tought it had over heated and lost its mind. However, eventally I did see the cop with that huge old gun mounted to his door!

Um, the cops around Ft. Pierce use x all the time--not the troopers, it's county or city. White cars with blue, or was that green stripes/lettering...I don't pay that much attention.

Oh and if on the Turnpike between Orlando and Palm Beach, beware of a Steeda Mustang in red. It's a trooper.

I've had my X turned off in my state...no problem there is no X and the detector is much more pleasant. But like you, whenever I hit the road, you gotta turn it back on. X-band radar is just as good as the other radars, X-band has instant on, they all aren't ancient, I've had many X-band radar tickets in the 80s. It's out there still.
