The light came on for a reason, find out why it came on and fix the problem.

Take it to Autozone and have them scan it. They do it for free. And if it's something serious, take it to the dealership.

If the question would have been about the maintenance required light, we could have told you how to shut that off (it's a sticky in the FAQ forum).

That was MY first thought too.. jctzin- double check which light you are talking about. one is potentially very serious.. the other is not at all.

Well first you have to check if the engine is there. If it is still there you can turn off the check engine light.

J/k... go to Autozone or Advance Auto. They will usually scan the code for free. Then respond with what the code # is what it is desribed as. More than likely it is probably an oxygen sensor code or misfire code b/c you are due to replace spark plugs and sensors right about now.

Excelerate,
how much do the oxygen sensor cost anyway to replace I know the spark plugs doesn't cost that much...... I just read the manual yesterday and looking at adding oil for brake, power steering etc...... Manual stated that I should use honda oil only I am assuming that is not the case right.....

I believe the only stipulation on the brake fluid is DOT 4 brake fluid. It will say it on the cap of the brake fluid reservoir what you need to run. Power Steering fluid can be any power steering fluid, although obviously Honda's fluids are made specifically for Hondas. The stock spark plugs are double platinums and will cost you probably about $18 each from the dealer. I can get you some NGK or DENSO Iridiums if you want.

I respectfully disagree and would use only Honda fluid for tranny, brakes, and power steering. I think they are required in the manual and subs can only be used in an emergency and should be replaced ASAP.

That's what the manual says. Do you know why? To buy more Honda products. The manual even states that you can use any DOT 4 brake fluid. Many members have run different brake fluids. However, I would stick to the Honda ps fluid, no reason to use something else.

Oh yeah, and you may want to tell them where the diagnostic plug in port is (or whatever it's called). They may not know where to look

how many miles to you have on your CL? If the check engine light came on, you can get it replaced right now if you have under 100k miles.

hey, hey...,
six speeders should use redline fully synthetic MTL. It is for hondas and makes a noticable improvment the second you put it in. wish i knew about it a long time ago.

not to hijack. The other night I put my car in reverse and backed up. When I put it in D5 it wouldn't go. It felt like I was trying to drive over a cinder block. D5 light started flashing. Check engine light came on, I thought F#@k my tranny just went out at 2000 miles out of warranty.
mfather is a transmission man. He took it to his shop and somehow two wires got broken of at a connector. Anyways check engine light is still on and I would like to know if I can shut it off myself. Also he said no other codes came up as far as the tranny was concerned but he did not go any deeper to look around. Kind of a quick fix I guess. So any one know how to shut it off?
