I was cleaning my intake when i noticed that the little part which holds it to the car is broken..wtf!!! however it did not create a hole like some others i've seen so theres still a tight seal . just the little metal piece is cut in half...*THANK GOODNES*..... that is soo fuckin cheap.. who else experienced this and anyone know why?.. was it b/c i took a corner too hard?

 

did you use the rubber gromet that came with the kit??? Everyone who seems to have this problem, didn't use this...

 

yes i did use the rubber gromet.. and it still broke.. should i write a complaint?

 

Yeah, I think there's a lifetime warranty on them.

 

is there an email address? i checked their site but couldnt find any.. and i dont wanna call long distance..

 

Same here about 4 months ago I noticed the same thing, and yes I used the rubber mount.

I had the same problem....had mine replaced for free

 

Had the same problem, but wasn't using the rubber gromet. Resulted from all the direct contact vibration with the rest of the car. Me hopping the wheels at the strip didn't help. I put the gromet on and that sucker isn't budging now. Didn't mess with taking the CAI out and replacing, just sealed it. No problem now.

 

How? Mine is like a year old and I don't have the reciept anymore.

well i guess you dont really need that little metal piece... that bad.. its not crucial to have.. but they (AEM) should have thought of a better design...im just glad it didnt make a hole..

 

The first few batches of the AEM CAI for the '01 CL-S had a design flaw with the tab that attaches to the car. The tab was not the proper height. My gromet actually broke off & the tab was bent.
I know you don't want to call long distance but I believe its the best way to work something out with them. The person I dealt with was very courteous & helpful. I believe his name was Ken. If yours happens to be one of the early ones, they should replace it. Why don't you try to get a duplicate receipt from the place you bought it at so you have some proof.

 

I have the receipt still .. well do i have to send my old one back? if they do replace it?..

 

I would call them first & confirm it. There's 2 options. You can take yours out & put the stock back (not recommended due to a lot of work). Or you can charge a new one to your credit card & wait til the new one arrives & then ship the broken one. When they receive it they will refund your card. This is what I did.

 

actually i dont really care that the thing broke.. it still works well.. but u guys see any problems of not having the little metal piece?... if so... then ill probably call them.
