Brake upgrade project - question regarding caliper replacement to Legend
Brake upgrade project - question regarding caliper replacement to Legend
Hello all,
I am planning a brake upgrade project, as my current stockies are warped to hell. I'm planning to go with the EBC slotted/dimpled rotors (unless anyone has any other suggestions) with red or green stuff pads and a legend caliper upgrade (my budget is 700ish for this).
First question - any other suggestions given my budget?
Second - instead of finding Legend calipers at a junkyard, how about OEM replacement calipers (ie. A1 Cardone - see link: http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sh...ra/legend.html). Would these work if all I'm looking for is the dual piston 38/40mm setup?
Anyway, thanks a bunch for the help.

get the ebs slotted rotors. dimpled are useless. i have the slotted ones and i saved a bunch of coin. these rotors will not warp as long as you use the proper pads. the oem ones are the culprit for warping.
legend calipers are a good bet and u can get them at oriellys or autozone and return your oem ones as a core and get some money back. they will never be able to tell the difference.

I replaced mine recently and looks like you are looking for the same kind of setup. i went with the ebc ultimax slotted rotors over the slotted/dimpled sport ones, ebc red pads, legend calipers, and brake lines you can get goodridge, xlr8 etc. For the legend calipers i just bought mine from autozone, then returned my stock calipers for the core refund so they cost me 104 for both calipers. I would suggest powdercoating or painting the calipers before installing them. Mine didnt come with the brackets, so you might wanna buy another set of those to paint also or remove yor stock ones and paint. My cost was roughly 310 for rotors, 140 pads, 104 calipers, 100 brake lines.
Also the Legend caliper marked "L" goes on the right side and the "R" one goes on the left. This keeps the bleeder screws facing the right way for our cars. When you get them in your hands you'll see what we are talking about.
Def a good conversion, once I did mine I wondered why I waited so long.
x2 on getting them powdercoated before you put them on. Paint is nice, but you'll be doing it once a year (depending on your location).

I went with the 95 legend gs sedan ones. You can get the other model ones just make sure they are 2 piston not 1 piston. For the rears you just leave them as is. You can powdercoat or paint the stock rears. Only other option would be like a rotora rear big brake kit but no point getting that unless you have the fronts to match.

You guys should check out DRT. I found them on ebay and they seem to have some pretty good reviews. I just picked up a set of 4 premium rotors/pads (they have standard and premium level rotors) for $330 shipped. I'll let you know how they are lasting in a few months after I install them, but from reading reviews on subaru forums and such, they seem to love these rotors. The inner and outer edges also come powdercoated which is obviously a plus. From what I have read they hold up pretty well to warping and no one has any problems with the premiums warping
If you've got aftermarket wheels that will clear them, you should consider the RL calipers. Would probably run you between 700-800 for the system. I just got mine back from the powdercoaters to match my paint.

Holly shit, those are insane! I'm sending mine out for powdercoating soon, hate repainting them...
What year RL and are these a direct bolt on? I'm Guessing you also need to use RL pads, right?
I ordered another set of legend front calipers, a set of cl rear calipers and cl caliper brackets for all 4 from autozone. I am going to send these to my powdercoater on wednesday to get it all coated semi gloss black. I decided this was the best option so i can still drive my car and not have to remove the calipers on now to send out. I will only have to remove the wheels once instead of twice(gonna install coilovers at same time too), plus i will just return my other legend and cl calipers for the core fund and get $188 back.
I would have liked to go with a bbk or the rl calipers but it is too late now plus those wont clear my stock rims i need to use in winter. i would have to sell my stock wheels and buy the tl wheels to be able to run bbk. Think these will turn out nice all perty and black.
I just couldnt stand how bad the legend calipers looked all rusted up.
Pricey but oh well.

pads don't make rotors warp, undersized brakes do along with some help from the single piston calipers.
CL is a fairly heavy car at nearly 3600lbs and the brakes on the car are SMALL compared to it's weight. Want to fix the warping issue? get larger brakes....
RL calipers will fit if you get the brakets from RON A

Thats why i cant go this route. Im not buying wheels to fit brakes. Its hard enough to find wheels i like to fit the car ha
