Are Brake Pad Shims needed

I just got done replacing my brake pads and when I was cleaning up I noticed the old pads had shims. I don't know why I didn't see them when I was removing the old pads. Is it o.k. without them or do I have to take everything apart again?

Just contacted Wagner and they said the original shims are not required. That's a relief.

Not "needed", but they wouldn't hurt.
