black versus silver
black versus silver
My husband is leaning towards getting a CL-S in black and I like the silver. I know the silver is going to be easier to keep looking good, but for those of you that own black - how do you find it? I've only seen a black one in a showroom, and under fluorescent lights, all buffed up it looks great!
Thanks so much for your comments!

I've got a black CLS and it's a pain in the ass to keep clean because every little imperfection is easily noticed. But if you just spend some time washing frequently and waxing, a black car will look beautiful.
Ditto that, black looks great, day or night, clean-but not necessarily super clean, and hey with tints it looks even better!
Its good to see there are some female drivers that appreciate the CL-S! ...or are they buying it for their husbands?!?!?

Nothing looks as good as black, well for the first 2 min it's clean anyway. I had to wait 2 weeks to get my car because I wanted black on black. They gave me a Silver Cls loner while I waited for my black car, I wouldn't have silver, the look doesn't compair in my opinion. see pics

I am on my third black car. As long as you keep it waxed good. It doesn't take long to wash and dry it off. Making sure it is hand washed with 100% cotton and dried the same. When it rains the water spots can be annoying.
When I was thinking about buying my CLS last year I was torn between the black and silver. I decided to go with silver for 2 reasons. 1) Less washing, waxing, and polishing. 2) Less noticeable scratches on a silver colored car... I personally hate seeing water spots or scratches on my car and I knew if I decided on the black I would be pissed everytime it rained or If I saw a scratch...
With me its a Love/Hate issue with Black. Under certain lighting conditions my car looks sweet and in other light looks like hell. If its a real sunny day, look out, swirl marks and imperfections everywhere. I wash and wax all the time with Zaino. Those swirl marks will not go away even after 4 coats of Z-5.
I would get black again.... but now I know about Zaino. When I first bought the car I didnt know about which wax was better or worse. Also I know now never to take her to an automatic car wash and also NEVER let the dealer wash or even worse wax it!
You just have to know what you can and cant do to a black finish.

I have a satin silver myself - since it requires the least maintenance and cars get dirty really fast with the infamous amounts of rain we get here. Although I must admit, I like the black best when it is clean.
In the Lower Mainland, at least 50% of the CLs I see are silver. According to my Acura salesman [@ Burrard Acura] they sell almost all silver CLs.
I guess the question is whether you want ease of exterior maintenance [with the crappy and unpredictable weather here in mind] and/or whether you want to be a little more unique.
Regards.

go for the anthracite, its the best of both worlds, and it will look so ill with the bodycolored grille and black headlight housing. I wish That color was available for my 2001. I have the silver wich is nice but black is my favorite color for a car. too high mantainance though
I'd go with Satin Silver Metallic, with the amount of rain we get in Vancouver, the black will be too much maintenace, IMHO. The black is pretty sweet in the showroom, unless you really like washing your car A LOT.
Which dealer do you plan for your purchase??

Milkbone and Got PSI - thanks from a local perspective - I hear you about the weather here in Vancouver, and the rain, etc. We already have a black Honda CR-V which will become my vehicle, and hubby gets the new car (btw the CR-V is usually filthy, which is why I worry about getting another black car). Of course, Tom says 'it's a truck and should be dirty'. Whatever.
Not sure which dealer we will end up using - Langley is closest to us - any comments on any of the local dealers?

Rain??? What is that??:P
Since you are from BC then I would say go for Silver, because it rains alot, and you will have to wash the Black all the time.
As for me, I live in So. Cal.....it rains here 2-3 months out of the year at most.....So Black is where it's at in my climate.
By the way...Black is just plain sex on wheels for the CL-S.

Black is the best color when it's clean. Looks sleek and classy, makes the car look awesome, especially with nice rims.
I would have picked black but I'm a lazy ass and I can't stand dirt and water spots...and I live in Cali
where it rains rarely! Now that's seriously lazy!
If they had Aegean Blue, I would have picked Blue. Unique color.
If they had even the dark metallic green, I would have gotten that. Not as unique as blue, but still looks great.
Silver is nice...but it's too damn common, everyone has a silver car these days...which makes sense if you want to sell later...but damn I want to be more unique y'know!

heres an idea, buy both like I did.... hehe jk, If you dont plan on washing ur car every week, then dont get the black. I have a black and its dirty 95% of the time. After me and my sis both wash our cars, mine would be clean for a few days then it would be dirty, whily my sis's silver would look good for a few weeks.
