If you don't want to spend the bucks, then you're leaving yourself open for problems.

There aren't really any "decent" detectors. They're either GOOD or they SUCK.

I wouldn't buy anything but the V1 or 8500.
The 8500 is $300.00, not much for the amount of protection it will provide.
I learned the hard way!

I have a new Bel 980 and I'm tellin' ya- the fu*ker sees around corners, picks off state boys hiding in bushes from miles away. It's saved me on many occasions. I bacsically live on the road, I'm in outside sales and drive all over Maryland every day. It has MANY useful features, the one I like the best is it's ability to go "dark", you can mount it upside down and swap the display to upside down as well. It's volume can go very loud too. Really nice detector.

Rice -- do you know what the Maryland State Troopers use for radar detection? both in their cruisers and the traps? Tried snooping around but couldn't find any info. I'm looking at the 8500 or the Bel 880...
