battery installed backwards...help please
hey
friend of mine installed his batter backwards in a civic si. he got a couple fuses replaced but the car is still screwing up. he said it stalled at an intersection, and the rpm's are fluctuating occasionally. any idea what else might have been fucked up by connecting the battery backwards? could he have fucked up the alternator? any way this could have fucked up the spark plugs?
any advice would help a lot..
thanks

I would imagine that it should have fried lots of fuses and/or relays... the alternator, I doubt. If its under warrenty I would take it to Honda and tell them the car is fucking up. Is he getting the "check engine" or the "charging system" light? I take that once he connected the battery to the wrong polarities that he got a big spark and he immediatly disconnected it. He didn't try to turn the key, right? What else is the Si doing? Come to think about it he might need a new ECU. Damn, never heard of anyone doing this.

yeah my friend....I'm not that dumb I swear....
Its not under warranty.
so yeah he let some idiot put his battery in for him and I guess he connected everything backwards. he didn't try to start it or anything, just connected it wrong. I wasn't there to see but I would imagine a big ass spark shot out...and now its stalling and shit.
I would imagine there is a fuse that would blow right away if you do this...I know if you put a battery backwards in a $10 stereo it will flip a fuse instead of blowing the whole thing...I hope a car has the same shit....
I don't know though. He says it stalls whenever he stops in intersections now, or whenever he lets the rpms low....

its not as bad as my other friend who toasted the transmission on his 03 escalade ext by trying a neutral drop...(awd)
I was drunk at a party when I posted that...I swear a lot when I am wasted.

If a circuit has reverse polarity protection there should not be a problem. Howeever, I doubt they build that into everything and potentially not the ECU.
He will need to go through everything to isolate the problem but he might as well accept that the ECU may need to be replaced.

The fuse system is designed to blow when it is overloaded. Changing the polarity does not overload the system.
A few diodes in the ECU would help fix the polarity issues. but why engineer those cost in when the batteries have DIFFERENT SIZE POSTS!
