Battery Dying at 56K Miles??

Hey all - quesition about life of '03 battery. Mine seems to be getting low, and I don't know if it's the battery or possibly alternator which isn't charging. I've had to get it jumped twice (thankfully both times I was at a gas station getting gas)

I did recently put in a 300W sub amp, but I am cautious about running the radio when the car is off.

Might this be time for a new battery, or may I need to take a look at soemthing else? Way to test alternator?

Thanks!

I think you can go to Autozone or something and they will test it for free. My dealer tests my battery every time I take the car to them. BTW, mine was replaced by the dealer I bought it from in Feb. '05 w/37K on it. It could be going but I think you need to have it tested.

by having a system you are adding stress to the charging system (batt and alt.) get the batterey tested but i would bet it needs replacement

Batteries age over time irregardless of mileage or use, hot weather ages them too. Mine had to be replaced at about 2.5 years old with less than 25k miles.
that;s what the dealer told me anyway after they tested it when I had an oil change, had no problems with the battery before that.

The stock CL/TL battery only lasts about 2-3 years. Put any serious load on it & it will last even less.

Dealer also said low use can age the battery faster too. My car had only 7500 miles after the fist year when I bought it. The replacement battery Acura put in, (I think it was an Interstate? is supposed to be a lot better than the stock battery.

An Interstate? Why not a Honda battery? That's all the dealers by me will put in.

Thanks all for the responses. Two questions:

1) What is the advantage of the OPTIMA battery
2) A co-worker of mine told me of another battery which sits between my main car-battery and my amp. Said it will reduce the stress on my main bat, which I can see. Is there a special hook-up which allows draining/stress of this additional battery and not the one in the trunk? I am pretty sure that they would not just be hooked up in parallel.

Thanks!!

That's called a capacitor. And it's true. You can get them in all sizes and colours. I have a 1farad, and my lights don't dim any more. So you may want a new battery, and get a 1farad.

My battery is just over 4 years old and still going strong.
When it fails I plan on getting the same brand that was installed by Acura.
O'Rileys seems to be the only one, beside the dealer, which sells the Delphi battery. I never had a battery last over four years.
