I'm lost

Over the past few weeks I have started to notice that my CL is getting a little floaty over bumps. With 70,000 miles I figured it was about time to get new shocks. When I had my Ford Explorer it only cost me about $350 for Monroe sensa-tracs. I called up my local Acura dealer and got a quote of $850. He told me that the Acura's have struts and they don't use shocks anymore. What is a strut? I just want the ride back to where it was when I bought it. They said they have to do alignments and everything else. They are going to charge me $91 per strut and then labor. I have found some Acura sites selling shock absorbers for $67. Can someone shed some light on the CL suspension and ways to cut this price a little... Maybe it isn't that bad of a price.

Ask around- you can get installs for around $250, buy the inserts for about $50-$75 each.

You can do this yourself if you are even remotely mechanically inclined. It's really easy if you follow NiteQwill's DIY spring install. It's the exact same process.

Thanks for all the replies. I am going to try to talk to my local shop and see if I can get a price. What is the difference in a strut and and shock absorber? I picture 2 different things.

If you're going to spend all that cash, get coilovers.

If I still have my CLS when the struts need replacing I'll probably go with the H&R lowering springs and Koni yellows...

I went to the local shop and the guy said they were fine. He pushed down on the front bumper and then the back and no bouncing. I have looked at some of these performance shocks and they are way to expensive. Coilovers? Sorry I don't really know anything about suspension stuff. I looked at Bilstein but they are $125 a shock..I'm on a budget. This is when I wish I had the money back from my LCD tv I bought last week.
