Badged S4

I was driving down La Jolla Village (for people in La Jolla/SD) and I noticed a lowered Audi w/ rims and a S4 badge in my lane infront of me. He looked in his rear-view and accelerated. We stopped at a light and when the light turned green he took off more aggressively and accelerated hard in 2nd gear to pull infront of the pack. I had a cake in the back & my girl was in the car, so I thought some other time. He did this for two more lights, but on the third I was right next to him. He was creeping up, so I told my gf screw it...I'm going. The light turned green, both of us lauched normally, then I hit it as I hear his tires chrip, but I didn't hear any BOV or turbine whine. By the time I was at 60, he was WAY back. I shutdown and moved over to the left turn lane and then he passed me.

Ah man, a perfectly good cake got smashed and my girl was pissed!

Just wondering about that. A tip S4 runs 14.6 best and averages 14.7-14.8 at the track. But that is spare out. Which puts the CL-S in the same ballpark. When you said he chirped the tires though, leaves out the Tiptronic, hard to do even on a 6 speed and then you have to drop the clutch.
Maybe a rebadged A4 2.8 manual since no turbo whine? Just wondering. Could have been a S4 6 speed and you just smoked em, but if he was a S4 6 speed and chirped the tires then he would have been accelerating real good. Only he knows for sure. Sorry about the cake!

Ming - Exactly what I was thinking. I know for sure it was a stick b/c at the 2 previous lights, I saw his car tipping back and forward when shifting.
Although I have some mods (and I had my spare and jack out also), I can't be that fast...plus my gf was in the car while he was alone. I swear I didn't hear turbo, but maybe it was a S4 and he just can't drive stick. whatever.

I think you can tell by the side skirts. On a non-S4 they are black. I'm not 100% sure.

One time while waiting to leave an amusement park, I saw what appeared to be an S4. Everything looked like an S4. Grill, bumper cover, badges, wheels, xenons. But, the side skirts were black. So it was A4 1.8T or 2.8. Total poser.

I would guess he had a source for stock S4 parts? Maybe a friend with a modified S4. Wheels, bumper cover, and grill would be easy to install. HIDs are availble on an A4. His cloth seats were another giveaway.

I guess if you got the parts, to each his own.

I see like 2-3 "fake" S4's on the road a day. Sometimes even the earlier generation has em on. I personally can tell the difference and i just don't see the reason for doing it.

prolly was a 'fake' S4. my friend has one has never been able to chirp the tires and his has stage II. its amazing how much traction those things get with quattro. so i would think that if that guy's tires chirped it probably wasn't even a quattro.
