Automatic Gear shift locked

Hello everyone. I have recently came across a problem. My gear shift is locking and staying locked when put into park. Im not sure if anyone else has come across this? it the gear shift in need of replacing or is there something else going on? any help would be appreciated. The only way I can take the car out of park is to pop out that little black cap and hold down the white button. Im guessing it is a manual lock release?

well this happened to my old honda accord a few yrs back and it was a switch inside the assembly that was connected to the brake that was the culprit.

honda has a built in safe mechanism with the shift out of park and the depression of the brake pedal.

brake switch is most likely the issue. when u hit ur brakes, do do the brake lights come on? if not it the brake switch mounted under the dash, above the brake pedal

I just checked my brake lights and when I hit the brakes, the brake lights are coming on. Does that eliminate The brake pedal switch? if not how else can I test it?

well the problem stopped with the gear lock, it is able to flow through the gears easily. But now yesterday the check engine light and caution light went on. I was gonna check it out today but now the tranny is slipping bad. I'm guessing that's why the engine light is on? anyways at this point I really don't know what I should do I am considering all options. any suggestions...

just for $hits and giggles, you could take a code reader and pull the codes to see what they say

I dont have a reader, and I really dont want to drive it and further damage anything. I was trying to read on how to read it with putting a paper clip inside the connector holes? does this work?

I drove my MANGLED slipping transmission for roughly 80 miles or so and it held up.... as long as u left off the gas in between shifting it in tiptronic.
