Auto diming mirror

Just had mine replaced at 34,000 miles and was curious how many others have had to replace theirs? At least I got the free car wash out of it:P

Why did you have it replaced?

When you replaced it, did you have to fork out any $ or was this covered by your warranty?

Mine stopped auto dimming in the lower left hand corner..

Dealer replaced it for free. It broke at around 1 year 12k miles.

i posted a previous thread on this a while back...

yeah, it seems that these mirrors have a "limited lifetime".
i got mine replaced at the dealer, no quesitons asked at 34,000 miles as well.

now, i just turn it off when i don't need it. I recommend others to do that as well.

I was also wondering if someone could come up with a way so that it turns on ONLY when we activate the headlamps....

what do you guys think?

I thought you would know what to do since you are a senior in EE :P ... All you have to do is cut the power wire to the mirror, then feed it to a relay that triggered by the headlight switch.

VERY handy when you have a jacked-up SUV sitting behind you with lights as bright as arc lamps making the inside of your car look like a movie set (didn't have sunglasses in the car for night driving encounters of the Close Encounter kind). (I forgot who also mentioned the Richard Dreyfus scene from close encounters and the HID lamps, but ...)

IMO, the mirror (auto-dim feature) also works great for those "rare" encounters where the sun is at my back and I still want to see what's in back!

I noticed once I got the tint I didn't need to use mine as often.

Sometimes I forget about it.

I just had mine replaced 2 weeks ago. Same exact thing. From the lower left corner almost like a slide towards the bottom right. They replaced it when I had my new transmission installed.

Cause I saw a dealer washing a Lexus with a push broom.

How are you sure they use 100% cotton towels? My suggestion, park your car at a shopping center/mall that has really good lighting, at night. Check out the swirlies.

Really. I thought they spit on your car and wipe it with paper towels.

The young idiots that wash my car had backed my car up into a barrel and i have a little ding on my bumper where i didn't find out until later, that evening but, my word against theirs. I also just bought a spoiler had the dealer put it on and they washed my car without asking me and there were swirl marks on my spoiler ALREADY They also washed it b4 (and yes they use mits, but if it hits the ground or gets dirty do you think they will actually clean off the debree like we do? NOPE) and i had swirls that took a lot of zaino and blackfire to remove. I also complained to them about it! No more washes for me!

On topic tho, do you guys clean your rear view mirror? You have to use special tint cleaning solution or professional window treatment. I have 18,000 miles on my car and i clean the mirror and use it all the time. No problems what so ever! :P
