Hi,
I'm interesting in getting the SSR Competitions also -- they sure look sweet
Do you have any pics of your car with the SSRs on?
How much did you pay for them , if you don't mind my asking?
Lastly, have you found any benefit in the decreased unsprung weight? Do your cars tend to spin too much now because of it?
Thanks for any info

1. I do not have a picture of the tire/wheels. I like the wheels (but must say I would like to kill the gap above the wheels. I've talked to a number of guys who say (and I agree) that the switch to new wheels (including 18s) leaves the car with this "lower-me lower-me please" look.
2. Leave a message for Technique: He has some great pictures of the tires and wheels and the resolution and shots are excellent.
3. I paid about $350-$360 a wheel. My dealer got them from TireRack at a discount rate. He didn't charge me for install, balance, or tax.
4. If have noticed the unsprung weight difference (big time) 13lbs vs 25-26lbs (stock). I had Toyos on the stock wheels first (very sticky and with great ride). The unsprung weight is even lighter with the Toyos (at least another pound lighter than stock tires). So, the difference in total unsprung weight is almost 14 lbs per wheel/tire! (12 lbs per wheel keeps me out of trouble...)
a. Steering feels lighter than stock in turns and the wheels just "dance" over washboard roads. They really feel great.
b. Technique came up with the expression 1st, but I altered it to, "It feels like I threw 1 or 2 people out of the car." Also, ask him.
c. By spin, I presume -- spinning wheels on take off -- NO. The Toyos stopped the wheel spin on take off. With the MXM4s (stock tires) I would always have to put an egg under my foot on launches to keep from spinning. With the Toyos and wheels, I am glued to the road. I have to almost abuse the car to get some spin on take off. The VSA will only blink with 100 octane fuel and a real quick stomp.
Whatever you get, try to go light. It is expensive, but I am very happy about the SSRs. The credit goes to Technique for finding them. A great deal for the very low weight and they are semi-solid forged.
Hope that helps, let me know if I can help more.

(I guess you can tell I like them.)
(the opinions expressed are my own)

Your signature indicates that you have wheel locks, but there are none on the SSR wheels in your pictures. Don't they fit on the SSR wheels or do you like the look better without the locks?

EricL: I find it hard to belive that your rims are lighter than my Volks....mine weigh in at ~ 14.5lbs each...and they cost quite a bit more than yours did...how do you know they weigh 13lbs?

Thanks for the info guys, sweet!
You're right though, the gap between the tire and the fenderwell is even more apparent now.
They're expensive though ..

Here is the link, it is in the FAQ section of the board and was brought here by "Al Uminum":

Here is the direct link to the site:

They have the weight of a bunch of wheels including the SSR Competitions. (As I said the Integrals weigh more)
Here is my listing from the link:
SSR Type-C (called Competitions in the US) SSF: size = 17x8, weight = 13.1lbs
(And TireRack's 14.2-14.8)
One of the reasons I don't put the higher weight loss figure in the sig below, is to stay on the "safe" side of the weight.
So stock is 25-26 (one member weighed on digital scale at 26lbs), the tire I have is about a 1+ lb lighter (than stock) and so just using the TireRack data its about 12 lbs lighter per tire/wheel. The data comes in KG (for a lot of the wheels), and I've seen the data sheets, then called and have gotten the wrong conversion from KG to lb by the dealer (So, if your picking to the last pound, call the manufacture's rep or sales rep, is you want to be sure.)
The dealer I bought them from sells tons of the Volks wheels (very light -- have a W rating --> higher speed). He picked up the SSR when it came in, and he said, "Man your right, this wheel is amazingly light..."

Wow

Here is the direct link to the site with wheel weights, this is where I got one of the 13lb figures:
http://home.earthlink.net/~cvlocas/wheels.html
Here is my listing from the provided link:

SSR Type-C (called Competitions in the US) SSF: size = 17x8, weight = 13.1lbs

I found the page is May's Sport Compact car (page 54) and the 15x7s are 10lbs going up to the 17x8.5 at 15.1lbs.
As I said, everybody seems to have a different weight, but take off 1/2" of rim, they are light for the $$$.
The Volks are W rated for speed (168 MPH), and the SSR Comps only V rated (149), So the Volks must be very strong.
(There is a little letter on the wheels)
Do remember, that you have 18" wheels vs. my 17" wheels (V rated 149+ MPH) AND your's are W rated for more speed (168+ MPH).
BTW --You asked how did I do I know (lowest and highest of all the sources). If your talking about, betting my life on it -- NO WAY. I think I would want to weigh each and every wheel with a beam balance (doctor's scale NOT digital scale [there is a huge difference]) to really know the exact weight of each wheel on my car. So low side is 13lbs (link provided + KG info) and the high side is 14.2lbs (Tire rack + Sport Compact agree on the lower weight on the 17x8.5" SSR)
BTW2 -- I got special wheel nuts and double locks for the wheels.
