Anyone remove the Onstar rubber antenna?

I don't use Onstar and want to remove the roof antenna. Anyone do it? What did you cover the hole with?

If you want it to look different, why don’t you buy the “shark” style one from BMW or Mercedes?

Or you could buy a 2004 TL XM radio antennae?
You could probably buy one that’s already painted Anthracite.
If you’re not concerned about the electronics, you could just mount it to cover the hole.

Exclusivity has its costs.
Heck, the BMW & Mercedes ones are probably 500.

I think the rubber dickie would need to be bigger to attract admirers.
I don't think the XM little plate thing looks bad at all from what I remember.
Maybe just a big decal over the hole!

I kind of agree with that. I parked near a new TL last night at Best Buy and had a good look at it since this topic was on my mind.

I still say the “shark fin” on the newer BMW & Mercedes looks the best.

Then again, I think even a steaming pile of DOG wouldn’t look too bad on the roof of that M5.

Even the sharkfin looks obtrusive, maybe if it was smaller. I guess I don't like anything sticking up from the roof line. I removed the sunroof visor my car had for the same reason. I think the XM antenna on the 04 TL looks best. Less obtrusive.

On the BMW 5 series, kinda ugly to me. The tail lights remind me of that awful Maxima a generation ago with the big awkward shaped tailights. Just don't like that pieced on look of the Bangle trunks on the 7 and 5 series. They toned it way down on the new 3 series, I see. The BMW sports car, Z5? is it is already being discounting, no one is buying it because of styling, but I think all roadster sales have slumped.

I don't like the shark fins either. I'd rather have a bare roof too. I like the fact that they got rid of the radio antenna aerial, I wish it was the same for the other stuff.

My original post, but now I'm considering activating Onstar to get the emergency built-in phone service that just became available in my zip code. cause I really don't want a cell phone. May just try it for a couple months.

No idea.....I stole the link from the thread in the “Automobile News” section.
That’s just a prototype or concept anyway.
I don’t think they’re officially selling it anywhere in the world yet.

The OnStar concept is nice, but I’m too cheap to pay for coverage.
199 a year for something I’ll probably never use is a waste.
I always have a cell in the car if any kind of accident happens and I’m still conscious.

If they had a basic “emergency only” plan without all the fluff for 89 or 99 dollars a year I’d probably subscribe.

It’s damn near impossible to lock the keys in this car and I already nave NAVI to see where I’m going.
And if the car is stolen, I’d probably not want it back anyway.

Even if you DO NOT subsribe to Onstar, you still can be patched into emergency 911 through your OnStar system. Instead of directing the call to an OnStar representative, you will talk directly to a 911 Operator.

So, if your airbags go off, from what I'm told (by OnStar), a 911 Operator will come online. Likewise, you can also press the Emergency "Red Cross" button to call 911 from your car without paying a subscription to OnStar.

You're right, I was reading the Onstar site and saw that it works in an emergency even if you don't subscribe, I always wondered if they'd let me die cause I didn't subscribe!
But I'd still need the ugly fubber antenna.
Should probably just get a cell phone, grrrr. I get in the car to get away from the phone.

Now I have even LESS of a reason to subscribe.
