Anyone Paint Their Splash Guards To Match The Car?

Anyone out there paint their splash guards to match the car? I'd sure like to know how they take the paint. I just picked a set from Palm Beach Acura for $ 102. and will drop them off next week to my friend over at Superyl Auto Body for painting. I'm starting to prepare for my future wider performance tires.

I believe a handfull of people have done this with success. Apparently the paint may chip over time, but so far they have been holding up well. I think it was Jason T who painted his flaps... not suer off hand.

Hey Pappy, do you live in Palm Beach? I live in Palm Beach Gardens, and thats where I bought my car. I hate going there for service. They aren't helpful, slow, and unkind.

If you do this, it would be best to start with brand new ones unless yours are in perfect condition. You'll want to use paint that has an additive (i forget what its called) that allows for flexiblility. It works well on plastic. I'd also clear coat it to match the shine of the rest of the car.

I live in Wellington and Palm Beach Acura is the closest dealership. I bought my CLS over at Delray Acura when I lived in Boca. Either of these dealers aren't bad for service. They're always paying for my oil changes.

I've only heard it referred to as a Flex Additive... so you were on the right track

Thanks Joe, They're brand new still in the box. Good tip on matching the shine and the flex stuff.

Yep. follow juniorbean's link. I had mine done at Maroone ford in Margate.(body shop part) This is where Acura sent me to get them painted. Almost a year now, & they still look great. No chips, or cracking. They did use a flex additive, & a special paint. After they cured for a few days I Zaino'd them, then put them on the car.

I don’t care for when they are painted body color.
Looks too much like a Toyota Solara.

Good thing

The only good thing about it is when you wax your whip, you don't have to worry about getting wax on the black mud guards..

What would you suggest...painting them a different color or leaving them black? Car is white.

Now you're getting me hungry! Every time I'd see my splash guards, I'd want a glass of milk.

To make a long story short, there is always some kind of problem with either of my two Acura's. Small things...like missing parts on a car that was delivered. The transmission lock cap or valve stem cap missing or shitty wax job. When my car was in a body shop having the hood repainted under warranty, I should of had a car to use for free and someone fucked up. Other small things too. They always say, we'll give you a free oil change and I say...OK. They'll do anything to get all 5's on that silly survey.

Ok, I dropped off the splash guards to the body shop. He already new about the flex stuff. He said you apply it after the splash guards are painted, otherwise it will start chipping in a month. He will also 'clear' them to match the shine on the car. He is charging me $ 125. for the paint and installation.
