Anyone ever thought about an engine swap?
Anyone ever thought about an engine swap?
Everyone here wants to be faster and faster, but our engine has limits. Anyone ever thought of changing engines maybe to something that could withstand turbo and high boost pressure. What would even fit as a replacement engine? Anyone know of one? Or would it have to be special built engine?
Realistically... this would be a ridiculously expensive project... There are no direct swap engines that could be shoe horned into the CLS. The whole transverse mounting kind of screws us pretty bad.. as most replacement engines people would like to consider will not fit unless you gut the entire car and make some new engine/tranny mounts etc... Again with enough $$$ anything is possible.. but for the majority (99.5%) of people here it really isnt worth the trouble...
Major Factors To Consider:
- Transverse mounted V6 -> all engines I would like to swap with are not crammed in sideways LOL....
- Weight distribution -> Even if you shoehorned something else in the weight distribution would be horrible as cast and steel weighs $hitloads more then our aluminum....
- Suspension beef up -> with that weight increase .. its a must.
- Drivetrain -> You would really want AWD to make best use of new found power... good luck making that happen in the CLS.. again unless you gut it like a fish....
- Transmission -> Need I say more on this one?
- Electronics/Accesories -> Youd have to replace the wiring harnesses, ecu, injectors, fuel pumps, pressure regulators, radiator, alternator, exhaust etc...
To do a decent job that makes more useable power then what we already have it would cost an arm and a leg.. so much so that:
It would be cheaper to buy a new S4 and make it into a 11 sec car for the same $$$..
It would be cheaper to buy a new S4 and slam a CL body/shell onto it...
It would be cheaper to do most anything to most any other car then attempt this unless you got a cls for free....

Before we had member who got 3.5 CL-S, he got his engine stroke that uses some of the MDX parts like crankshaft, block, etc. I think the only Acura Dealer does is Rick Case Acura, i dont know if they still doing this... Some old members here might shed some light about this kind of mods...
Hey Modmole what do you know about the rick case CL? I've heard of 4.1TT engine are they doing this of of our block? If our engine is aluminum and that saves so much weight then why is our car so heavy? Must be the VSA, thats at least 1,000lbs...LOL

3.5L CLS
CT Headers
CT Supercharger
CAI
Pulleys
L/10 Torque Converter
VAFC
Sways
Coil-Overs
Light-Weight Rims
Nitrous 75 shot...
this would yield a monster that needs 255x45x17 up front for a chance of traction

Im not too familiar with the 4.1 but if i were to make a guess it would prolly be a longer storker kit matched to modified heads with an increased gasket for deck clearence and compression normilization.. just my .02

Hey mod? Know of any of the following parts for our car.... Extrude hone intake and heads, larger throttle body? Know of anyone who make this stuff?

maybe the RL's V8? Does the RL even have a V8? im pretty sure it does but it makes less HP than our V6, but im sure with some fine tuning, and a turbe that engine could really kick ass.

uhhh.....NO
RL uses a SOHC 24v V-6

Accord 3.39x3.39 = 2997cc 200hp 195 lb-ft
CLs/TLs 3.50x3.39 = 3210cc 260hp 232 lb-ft
MDX/Odyssey 3.50x3.66 = 3471cc 240hp 245 lb-ft
Looks like new rods & crankshaft would yield the 3.5L motor
I guess the Accord just has smaller diameter cylinder sleeves
& pistons in the aluminum block, deck height of all the blocks
should be the same

you mean the future RL will have RWD & a V-8 ???
becuase it is currently a FWD car
Acura should build a RWD V-8 flagship sedan to compete
with Infiniti Lexus BMW & Mercedes
heck even Cadillac is going RWD with the next generation Seville
