Anyone ever replaced their air intake?

Alright, I was trying to put in a CAI in my car earlier today, and of course step one was remove the stock intake.

I got out most everything except I believe the air intake duct. It's that U-shaped plastic pipe that sits almost right behind the front driver's side headlight. It's fastened onto something, and I can't see any visible bolts.

Anyone know how to get it off? Assuming people actually know what the hell I'm talking about....

and before anyone says it, I REALLY don't want to take it to a mechanic and have them do all this. This crap SHOULD be pretty basic, right? By the way, car is an 03 CL-S.

Is it connected to the intake resonator? In which case, you need to remove the resonator. Which may require removing the front bumper. For the time being, do a search...

I know exactly what you're talking about! Removing the bumper would be the easiest way to get to the bolts. Or if you want to scratch up your arm (like me) you can take off some fastners on the under side of the bumper and just reach up there

Ah-ha! You're right, it is the resonator, not the intake duct. My bad

I searched the forums and found combatmedic's thread (https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-cl-2001-2003-50/cai-fail-710581/) and if you take the filter out of that picture, that's how my engine looked before I put the stock intake back in.

So I'll have to take the front bumper off? I actually heard a couple people say they didn't even need to take the front bumper off. Maybe they also left the resonator on?

You dont HAAAVE to remove it. But it makes the job 10x easier. I didnt remove it. Just took a ratchet, wiggled it around the resonator until I found the bolts. lol.....dont think you can have a CAI with the resonator.

Yup, that's it! Good to know where the bolts are on it.

And the only reason I was hesitant to remove the bumper is because everyone I talked to about CAI installation made removing then putting the bumper back on sound like some horrific process.

you jack up the car, take off a few clips that hold the wheel fender and underbody panels in place. then you can actually feel the whole box up there. you just crawl under there and start unbolting it. its 10mm bolts.

I've done it both ways and it's definitely easier if you take the bumper off especially since you're installing the intake. The bumper is soo easy to take off on our cars that I would both with messing around with the skid panel

You can definitely remove it without removing the bumper. Just remove the bumper bolts on the drivers side, remove the bolts that connect the resonator and you're done.

It is possible to do it without taking off the bumper, but like a few members said, it really is a lot easier if you take it off. The bumper removal isn't as tough as some would think. I was terrified to take mine off when I cleared my headlights.

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-cl-frequently-asked-questions-52/d-i-y-clearing-headlights-495390/

Its a few clips and bolts and she pops right off. Just follow the instructions as far as getting the bumper off, then scroll down to putting it back on and you will be good! Good luck! I love my CAI by the way!
