Anyone done a SPL compitionon in their CL?

Im trying to find out the res freq of my car, so that i can build a SPL box. I have a sealed box now that i will use to find the correct freq but dont want to start at 20hz and work my way up from there (costs too damn much).

Peace!

Did you do a box that was tuned to your cars res freq? I have hit 140.3 with 3 10's in a sealed box. I want to do a SLP set up for the same 3 10's.

I never quite understood what the excitement of raw SPL's are if you don't measure distortion at the same time...

Or do they measure distortion too?

And I guess if tune the speakers to the resonance of the interior it will be louder. But once again what does this prove? not really useful for listening to music. Especially if you have a 10-20db peak at 40-100hz...

I'm confused...

Do you wear a hearing aid? Why would you need 145 db's of sound? Or is this an exhibition of who's got the biggest attachments?

Agree. There is a point in Audio where quantity and quality go separate ways.

I dont sit in the car when it hits 145 db. I wasnt even trying to reach a certain number, it just happened to hit that. I never measured my civic system SPL, but with the Acura I knew I wanted it louder. The system has completely no distortion at maximum volume; all components were tuned to withstand these levels. Trust me the quality is more important in my book and I am happy with the quantity

I had a system in my 95 Honda Civic Coupe and won a few trophies with it, it put out 135db. My current system is alot more precise and louder, but I have not tested it.

In compition all aspects of your system are judged; install, presentation, sound quality and SPL. My install is good, presentation is good, SQ is better than most but SPL was low. To win you need good scores in all categories. Im kind of different since i run 3 (SQ) 10's. I want to tune a box to my cars freq to get a few more pts out of SPL.
