Another One Bites the Dust - Farewell, CL
Another One Bites the Dust - Farewell, CL
Hey guys, been a long time user of this board, but I think today marks the end of my CL journey. I was t-boned yesterday by someone (driving a 2013 BMW X5) who failed to yield right of way as he was taking a left turn on a busy road during rush hour traffic. Upon collision, my car was smashed into metal railing near the entrance of a shopping center--basically, a double-impact accident.
From the looks of it, I'm thinking it's safe to assume that my car is not going to be repairable. It was a 2003 CL-S 6MT. Loved this car to death, it was at ~115k miles but drove as if it was new (in fact, i've driven way newer cars that didn't 'feel' new, if that makes any sense). Definitely going to remember this one as probbaly one of the best cars I have ever owned. Before this CL, I had an '03 NBP 5AT CL-S which, ironically, was also t-boned several years ago. Love the CL, it has saved my life TWICE now.
The pictures of what remains are below, it's sad seeing it like this. The X5 that I was struck by had barely any damage (front bumper and the lights were damaged, definitely looked fixable). But all things eventually come to an end, and I think this time around I'm going to have to go with another car since the newest CL I can get now is basically a decade old. It was a good run though. With that said, any suggestions?
Btw, the other party's insurance accepted full fault, car hasn't been appraised/inspected yet though. Budget for a replacement is still uncertain, but definitely under 20k OTD (preferably less). The two cars that have been on my mind are the 3rd gen TL-S's, G35 (coupe, or sedan if its newer body style), or the Genesis Coupe. Reliability and safety being most important factors, followed by performance and amenities.

. I've heard the G35's are great too, only thing that gets me is that the interior looks like it was made for giants (well, the seats at least).Definitely, it stood up very well.
I know what you mean, just looking at the pics puts me in a down mood. For the most part, I'm unhurt. Minor burns/scratches, presumably from airbag impact. Soreness in my left side but I think that's just normal, planning to get it checked out at an urgent care center tomorrow morning just to be on the safe side.
I hope you get a decent amount from insurance. It looks totaled to me too.
If you have the time and energy, Id suggest buying it back and parting it out. The tranny along is $1k. Or, Im sure you could find a member on here looking to do a full 6MT swap, and your car is the perfect for it.

Wow lots of Austinites on the forum nowadays, I've been away for years I guess.
Sorry about your crash, glad you are ok. I also love my CLS6MT, had it since it was a year old. I'm at 9x,000 mi; I forget exactly. I'm also in a dilemma as to what to replace it with. Coming from Prelude to Legend coupes and 2 CLSs Acura has lost interest in us. I've always had coupes and mostly manuals. but the boring world of sedans and automatics encroaches everyday.
I used to imagine an RL, I think I could adjust to the diff, but the mpg is a big drawback. I also mostly like the ZDX, but the mpg kills it. Unless you can get one really cheap to make up the added gas cost, it;s a bust. I do like a rare car. The CLS and the Legends before that spoiled me big time. getting' ready for sleepy time driving if I leave my CLS. GLad there are some new CLS enthusiasts. The 6 speed was the only CL worth having.

I'm doing fine, unfortunately I had to release the car to the insurance people (have no method of transporting it//storing it). Tempted to buy another CL-S, but more than likely will be replacing it with something a bit newer. Been looking at the newer TL-S's and G35's
Both tasteful cars, if you have toatalled 2 already maybe you should step up to a differnet car cause they are bad luck . Or stick with them since they always save you.
