Look at Comptech's website or Weapon R's. That's what an Air Box is. It's a hybrid between a stock intake and a CAI. The filter resides in the stock location, but it draws air from the front bumper area where the intake resonator used to reside. The air is drawn in through a velocity stack. The filter can be a flat panel K&N or Foam type like Comptech, or a cone type like Weapon R's.

This design has the best of both world in which it avoids the potential for hydrolock, yet gives performance similar to a CAI.

Well, some of the members on here are experts and don't really consider that they were once novices. Well..this is what an air box is and what it does:

I have a TL-S...so it's identical to your CL-S.
It's the black rectangular box on the lower- right side under the hood (facing the back of the car). The dimension are about 12x6 (LxW). In the box contains the stock air filter. The stock air filter is made our of folded zigzag paper. The purpose of the air filter is to filter out the dust and "crap" out of the air before it enters the engine. (You don't want dust and dirt burning in ur chambers) The air box just contains the air filter and it has a hole about 3 inches in diamiter at the bottom of it to let the air in one way and filter it out the other way before it enters the engine (it enters at the black rubber tub that is connected to the air box.

The resonator...which is connect under the air box is a clever device. The resonator is made out of hard plastic, located behind the bumper...purpose of it is to deaden the noise of the intake and to filter out moisture and water. The best i can describe the resonator is that it is a two chamber box that uses pressure to deaden/silence the noise (the noise of air being sucked in...which is fairly loud...ask ppl with CAI (cold air intakes)). The chamber will collect any water that is collect in the resonator and will depost it out a little hole out the bottom of the resonator (water in combustion chamber...BAD).

Where does the air collected from? Well, the air that the engine uses is collected under the hood...warm air. Look below the battery....on the right side a bit...there is a little black piece of plastic that lead the air from under the hood into the resonator, into the airbox...then into the engine.

The purpose of any Cold Air Intake device is to gather cooller air from the tire-well instead of the warm air from under the hood. Cooller air is more dense....meaning it's not expanded out as warm air is. Cooller air have more potential of expanding...and this expantion in the combustion chamber lead to increase in power. The current CAI by AEM or Injen are cone based...which the air filter is of a cone shape....sucks in air from all direction. The K&N and Comptech drop in filters are high pass low restriction are filters...they just replace the stock one...they improve air flow....giving you less resistance and a bit of performance increase (but nothing noticable).

Comptech is/has come out with an Ice box cold air intake. they have two designs depending on what car...the S2000 design is a box shape but only has 5 sides to it...it sucks in air on the 6th side. Imagine the CL-S stock air box with teh 3 inch diameter hole...now you have a hole that is about 8x8...bigger hole = more air to suck in. Design number 2...seen on the civics. It's basically a CAI from AEM...but there is a 5 sided box that goes over the filter...this will reduce the noise and block the warm air from the engine to be sucked in.

hope this helps....if you have any questions...about ANYTHING...feel free to e-mail me minh714@postmark.net
