after 141529 miles...

Finally the tranny gave up on me

Was driving fine until yesterday, started the car this morning, and car just can't shift from 2-3 and above. Whats worse is...I can't even reverse....

I went to a local tranny shop as I'm probably out of luck for the Acura warranty

I was quoted 1300 for the tranny (including labor)

Any opinions?

Is the 1300 for a rebuild or for a used tranny replacement?

Rebuilding it. He said there's a one year warranty as well. What are the usual prices people pay for trannys?

1300 and a year warranty is not bad.
As long as their is not any bill increases when you pick up the car.
He really don't know what he's got till the tranny is cracked open.
asked that av6 guy what is his going rate is for the rebuild

I payed 3 k for a tranny rebuild and new torque converter?
ASk the guy if that price includes torque converter ..
I heard of ALOT of people getting prices TOO GOOD to be true and said ok and when they took the tranny out of the car and opened it up they say it will be $1500 more cuz blah blah blah.. and if u tell them to go fu^& themselves they will tell you if u want us to put the tranny back togethere and into your car that will be $800 so u r screwed..
DONT get screwed and DO NOT go to AAMCO cuz they will lowball u and them F//K u !!
GO on ATRA . com and find a reputable place!
$1400 is too good to be true and prob is!

I called like 10 places in NJ area and prices for complete rebuild with torque converter and all work was anywhere from $2400 - $3500

Hm...thats something I didn't want to hear...heh

I didn't go to AAMCO, but went to a local shop that I knew. When he plugged the computer, it had something with

Shifter issue(forgot the actual wording)
gear ratio (again..not exact)

I'll call and ask...hoping I don't get screwed x.x

Ask people around in your area, not shops but a few diffent people and see if you find people agreeing with a certin trans shop.
It dont have to be a fancy shop,a world popular shop, just a shop that does a correct job and stands behind their work.
Word of mouth counts for alot.

THANK GOD, they are such butchers

and for the codes, kinda need code numbers to be more helpful, but

shifter issue; not quite sure without a number

gearratio; proably incorrect gear ratio, which means more then likely the computer is detecting gear (actually clutch pack) slippage; which is the output shaft is not turning the correct number of times for how many times the input shaft is turning

How about a 3rd gen or Oddysey tranny? Itll cost about the same, maybe alittle more but it will be worth it in the long run.

I got in contact with them, and they said the 1300 was including the torque converter and all the labor. To be honest, it sounds a little too good to be true.

I would much like to do what most of you suggested, and try to convert/put in the 3rd gen tranny, (or even go for the 6MT conversion)...but right now, I'm afraid that can't be one of my options :S

Just for the thoughts...how much should the 3rd gen tranny or the 6MT conversion cost?

I picked up the car today.

Total price: 1400.

They said they rebuilt the tranny, and also swapped out the rear motor mount.

Also, they gave me 1yr/12000mile warranty on the tranny. So far, I've driven for maybe 20-30 miles since the fix.

Was 1400 a good price for the fixed tranny and the rear mount?

They replaced the convertor too right.

pull the bottom cover plate, next to the oil pan, and normally when they "rebuild/make it", they paint it, but they may have still left it unpainted though (normally factory ones are just left unpainted)
