acura's charging for radio code?
i posted this in the audio&video section.. but maybe guys with specifically CL's would have a better opinion.
okay, so i read around about the radio code and went to my local dealership to get the code for my radio. he asked me if i unplugged the battery blahbalbh and i said yeah. he looks inside my passenger side glove compartment and trys to look for the code, he doesn't find it. soo he tells me i have to disassemble the whole unit and look in the back for the code and type it in myself. he says the maintaince guys would do it for me but for 100 bucks for labor . as i hear, they're suppose to do this for me for free right? i have an acura, its registered and all that bulls***. couldn't they type in my vin# and get the code? he seemed like a very tricky fellow. i don't know if this true.. soo is the code really in the back? if so, does that mean i have to input the code myself, or do i have the access for them to do it for me? i hear a lot of you guys just went there and they did it for you quick. in and out. leme know guys. give a brotha some help!

to my knowledge they have always been charging for the code. dont you have it written down in the owners manual? well you might just have to pay that hundred and write down that number in a million different places.

Another trick I have heard works is hold in 1 and 6 and then turn on the radio and thats supposed to give you some number the dealer uses to give you the code. Not sure if it will work but its worth a shot i guess.

use the search button there are threads on this that help.
There is a way of holding buttons down and turning on the radio to get the serial number but i dont remember which ones. Then just call acura and give them your serial number, this is what I did and it worked fine

If your registered under a certain websit it should have your radio code posted...
You know...just for future knowledge. The extra code is ALWAYS under the hood! Pop your hood and look under the lid where your large fuses are.
Usually the fuckers at the stealership will tell you this...but other places just want your money.
AND, AND IF you bought your car at the dealership that you are talking to, they should have the code as well written down in their system.

1212, I see you bumped the radio code thread...
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=170681
Just follow the instructions, get the code, and call a bunch dealers, you should find one eventually that doesn't charge...
EDIT: nevermind just login to http://www.ahm-ownerlink.com and once you've setup your account and entered your vin, the code will display in the "My CL" page:
Code:
VIN: 19UYA41693A008866 Trim: TYPE S 6 Speed Manual Ext. Color: San Marino Red Int. Color: Parchment Radio Code: 41425 3000xxxx

I wish it worked because one of my friends with his integra disconnected the battery and there is no trace of the radio code anywhere.

I'm guessing you bought your CL new, if not I was going to suggest that maybe if a previous owner entered them into owners-link before it would show up.

As I posted in my other thread, I had success with the radio serial # that was located on a sticker on the outside wall of the glove compartment. Guy at a honda dealer gave me my radio code right away!

hmm, so i find out that the sticker on the side of my glove compartment is the serial code.. however, it didn't have the first 30 in front of the number.. i assume that 30 represents CLs? or 6 cd changer? or some sort, i think a lot of people have the same first 2 numbers.

Yeah the Acura "stealers" around Dallas used to charge $65 for the code. The guy I bought my CLS-6 from told me that the Texas dealers put it on a sticker under the fusebox cover on the firewall on the passenger side under the hood. Mine is there, try this, may save you lot of time & $$
I have a Land Rover Discovery and the Land Rover dealer gives the code for free over the phone when you give them the VIN!

I just called the on Monday to get the code for my navi (already have the radio code). They needed my info and I had to fax over a copy of my title and license (since I'm not the original owner). They called me the next day to give it to me and there was no charge.

Glad I found this thread a few weeks back. Replaced my battery and didn't have the code. Tried the website and it didn't produce my code either. Called Acura and gave them the last eight numbers of my vin and I was set.

Son of a... i called the 3 dealerships so far and they all said that i had to bring it in so that they can remove the radio and such. I mentioned to him about the 1-6 button trick yet they still said that i had to bring it in.

They typically put the extra serial # stickers in the engine bay fuse box or the side of the glove box (as previously mentioned).
Many dealers will make you come in to the dealership with an ID and your registration before they will give you the code. The main reason for this is that the code is useless if they give it out to anyone who has the serial number. If I could steal code protected radios and just get the code from the dealership, why bother having it code protected?
