ABS Problems

I was wondering if anyone has ABS problems with their 1st Gen Acura Cl. I just had all 4 disk brakes changed and the drums machined. However, sometimes when I brake, the Stearing wheel jerks to the right. Any ideas?

Thanks

I had problems with my son's '97. I have had both front rotors replaced & the ABS module (brain box) replaced. Both are known 'headaches' with the 1Gen. It sounds like to me that one of your rotors is not true. If it was a sensor problem your ABS light would be on constatly. Any more info you can tell us would help to diagnose the problem.

RE: ABS Problem

Thanks For the great response Miner....

Well, the ABS has never turned on. I've had my baby for 1 month now and it worrys me to let someone else driver her because they might be careless when braking.
-- I asked the mechanic to advise me if i need to change the rotors, he said the since my 1999 CL only has 40K, that they shouldnt be bad. But i guess, as with most mechanical parts...you just never know

...in retrospect, i've also noticed that sometimes the right side of car makes a high pitched noise. [ i know its the brakes] I'm thinking the rotor may be sticking....Any thoughts?
---i hate thinking that i have to put down more money on a vehicle that i just purchase...alas, such is life!

I think he meant rotors.

BTW if the cars jerks to the right when braking, that side caliper may be out of adjustment. Sounds like it is too tight.

if u hear a loud squealling noise when braking, you will prob need shims and adhesive so they won't move

Rotors need only be replaced if they are at or below minimum spec as called out in the service manual for the car .

A pulling during braking indicates a fault in one of the calipers not the rotor .

The car does have a combination disc/drum brake in the rear .The regular brakes are disks the e-brake is a drum .

If it is squeeling you may have a the wrong composition brake pad or an improperly turned brake disk .It may also be caused by failure to use the correct anti noise shims (most aftermarket pads do not come with them) .

The brake system is a critical item do not service it if you have doubts about your abilities to do so .

There you have it. Advice from the PRO's. Get in your car in Florida right now and drive to Maywood NJ to Park Avenue Acura. Ask for Jens. I'm sure he will work you right in!

I have that problem on my 98. I need new calipers. I figured it out when I cleaned them and regrease them. But it only fixes the problem for a little while so I have to replace my rear ones. Mine also from a stop with heavy foot on the brakes, when I let go and start rolling, it makes squeaking noise for a bit and then quiet.

so do you think i would have to replace all 4 calipers? or just the front?
Also, i just had my brakes changed last week, do you think they greased the calipers when they changed the brakes?

I would recommend that you change in pairs. My friend and I did mine (he a pro mechanic), we greased it, it worked for like maybe a month and then crazy noise. So we greased it again, this time cleaning with brake cleaner. Lasted longer, but I decided to just change them in a little bit when I get some money. Fronts are cheap rears are twice as much. On ebay some guy ebays them for like 20-30 bucks. But try cleaning them and greasing them. if they didn't grease them, shame on them they suppose to.
