6MT tranny problem

anyone know why a 6MT tranny might not be able to shift to the "lower" gears? "lower" meaning 2nd, 4th, 6th, and reverse. It shifts into 1, 3, 5 fine and drives fine in those gears. engine sounds perfect when driven in 1, 3, 5.

Car had a minor accident at about 15 MPH.

Any tranny experts around here that may be able to give me some blind advice or a set of issues that may be present here to cause this?

I'm thinking maybe the cable is caught on something for the tranny. I pull down and somthing seems to be keeping me out of those gears and I don't know what. The damage to the car is on the front driver's side corner.

o yeah, and I can partially get it in reverse, or enough so that my passenger side side-mirror tilts down b/c it feels the gear is in reverse but it won't go all the way in the 2, 4, 6, and reverse gears.

Sounds like a linkage problem. THere is a large weight attached to the linkage at the trans on the passenger side. I would look at that to see if it may have bent upon impact. It's possible something could be caught in it too. I know the Comptech Icebox had a resonator right above there that could get caught in the linkage if it fell off when the impact occured.

Sounds like a Linkage problem for sure... after you pay out of your pocket for your accident and the car looks 100%, head off to the dealership for an easy fix.

fiured it out... the linkage got blocked b/c the battery got moved outta place due to the frame damage on the left front. lucky for me it's not damaged, soon as I get the frame straightened and the battery pulled outta the way I'll be ok. the tranny is fine says my family mechanic. thanks for the input guys. you were right on.

well .. let's face it .. Honda isn't known for its reliable automatic transmissions .. dating even farther back than the past 5 years ....

but in this case, I think it is a linkage issue ...

uhh... the tranny is fine... the battery just needs to be moved out of the way so it isn't blocking the linkage.

what was the estimate to fix it... it should be pretty hefty if the frame was bent.

Hope all goes well.
Guess the battery is squeezed in there pretty good for you to not be able to manually move it ?

$7-8K out of pocket. Man I feel for ya I'm sure your insurance couldn't have been that much that you couldn't do full coverage. Hope it works out for you.

actually it's ok... it was $5350 at the local Acura Dealership body shop. Looks like I'll be ok for repairing this car. They're also probably going to let me order my own brand new OEM parts from my distributor at my 25% discount... hooray!!!

I hope they do let you get from your distributor, and much props to that shop for letting you do so.
They say how long she'll be held up for ?
