6 speed vs. wrx 5 speed

my cousin and i finally convinced my brother to race me...he wanted to wait til he could drive better (he sucks ass...the wrx is his first car with a stick)...so we go out to a road that is in the middle of no where and with a 55 mph speed limit. my coz is riding in his car...me by myself...and my friend and his bro in another accord up front. the first race my brother was being stupid and jumped the gun and tried to play it off like he won...everyone told him he cheated....and i missed a shit...damn shift knob fell off (i forgot to tighten a bolt on the momo knob)...so 2nd race we go from a stop...my car grabs with minimal spin (it was a hot day - 90 degress out) and at about 80 i have about a car length on him. we all started laughing because first of all he has awd and a turbo, and second because we could smell his clutch from our cars....but whatever a win is a win....trying to save face my bro thought he could win from a roll. we all tried to explain to him that he would not win this because of a bunch of reason (less torque...added weight...because he sucks at shifting) but he wouldn't let up....so we go from 5 mph (even though he started speeding up before he even got to me)...i rape him by 1.5 car lengths and he slows down because he realized i bitch slapped his ugly ass "rex". he didn't live it down for a week.....by the way his car and my car were both stock

Nice kill. A WRX is no match for a 6sp CL-S from a roll.

You rolling a stock CL? He should be able to beat you from a dig in the quarter if he would just learn how to drive... I drove a WRX at the dealer, and its hella slow from a roll, but has decent bite from a dig.

No way, a stock 6 speed is definiatly faster than a stock wrx.. I test drove both in the same day, same condition. Plus, the driver factor is huge..

Nice kill, its always fun to beat up on people you know!!! I would've thought you would have raped him worse than that. I think an auto CLS should be able to beat a stock Rex. Heck I did in the GS when it was stock. I just hope he doesn't get the mod bug, because those Rex's have a lot of potential.

Again, nice kill!!!

i dunno if a stock 6speed is faster than a stock wrx to 60...i've read they have 5.4 0-60 where we have a 5.9. whenever we end up driving to the same place in different cars and screw and i usually rape him pretty badly....i don't know what was up that day....but then again a car length is hard to measure when you're looking in the rearview mirror.....hehehe.....i wish he was close enough for me to see his face of disappointment and my cousin laughing....

My 6 speed spanked a WRX too. The wrx was a friends, it had a downpipe, intake, exhaust, and BOV. I killed him on the rolling start. On the stop to go, he pulled from me alot at the start bc of AWD but i caught up by the end of 3rd gear. My car was stock at that time.

Are we all talking about the same WRX? The consistent sub 6 sec WRX? Or are we talking about the Impreza?

I mean, it is going to be a close race but the WRX is no joke, STOCK.

Have you ever seen a WRX run? I have on a couple different occasions and while I have seen a couple run 14.6/7, I have also seen 2 run 14.2/3.......and those were stock because I asked them. I know they could lie but they seemed like cool guys and they both were friends who wanted to run their cars stock before modding.

Now I would think the 14.2 is from somebody who really can drive the car and isn't afraid to abuse it in the name of best ET's. Where the mid-14 is probably just the opposite.

Either way a WRX should'nt have too much trouble beating auto CL's and could give 6-speeds a nice race. And if you beat one when your GS was stock then you probably have a nice mid-14 stock GS and you ran against a poorly driven WRX.

Later,

Wasnt there a guy running 13.9 with a stock 6 speed?

I think your bro needs to learn how to drive his car better... then he should give you a better race.

well i think the WRX stock is slow as hell...that said...if the owner is willing to dump the clutch at 5500 then he will put several cars on you out of the hole...if you dont let that startle you and cause you to smoke them i think one could catch the WRX before the end of third if not sooner...however i dont think most WRX owners are gonna dump the clutch that hi leading to more like a 1 car head start and quickly reeled in...look at any of the 14.2 times ill bet you'll see 95 mph traps...maybe even 93

Hmmm.....my roomate has CLS auto and he pretty much sees tail lights the whole time, both from a stop and a roll. I don't know where you get this idea that the stock WRX is slow. I've raced him from a roll before 20-80 mph and I beat him by 2 car lengths.

Also, the car is not that hard to drive as you make it sound. All you need is mild clutch slip (not a drop) at 4K and you're off. Not hard to do at all and not hard on your tranny.

Yes, I admit that the car sucks top end....but when I say top end, I'm talking like +100 mph which is pretty dangerous in my opinion anyways. I rarely race up to those speeds. So yes, I agree, if I was racing a CLS from 90 - 120, I would probably get my ass handed to me, but below that, I would place my bet with the WRX.

If stock WRX's are slow, what does that mean for stock CLS automatics? Dog-shit slow? Civic-slow? I dont get it.

true.. and top end aint shit with the mods available.. the potential of the wrx is insane.. and what you are talking about in price difference is just comparing 2 completely different cars..

you dump the price difference into a WRX and you got a 300+HP car.

But yes... CL-S is fast (my friend is a part of this board)

as my friend likes to say..."your brother drives a subaru?" no matter how much money you put into a wrx it will never look or have the feel of a cls...the wrx is a rocket and is crazy in the twisties....but what kinda car do you wanna drive when you're going out on a date with a girl...a pimp-mobile....or a pocket rocket...

That's true. I really didn't buy the car for pimp factor anyway. I'm just a speed freak.

I had some fun with one yesterday on the highway. It was a 5 speed, but it wasn't that close until after 3rd which is when I let off the gas. Rex is fast off the line, but on a roll our CL-S has the advantage especially up an incline (in this situation ).

I am clueless to this statement too. I've raced a few, beat a stock one, lost to a stock one, got my ass whooped by a modded one. Everytime, the roads were curvy. The WRX is so much smaller, it handles like a go-kart. It also depends on the driver with the manual.

Hell, loaded Legacys are like 33k. That is NUTS.

It's more of a response thing that they dont use FMICs (lots of piping for the air to travel through). Plus FMICs are more dangerous because the bumper beams are weaker due to cutting. Only really modded ones have FMIC's. I've noticed that not too many people like to race because they see a big FMIC. Sucks for me =P

chances are when you're driving a wrx i doubt a fmic is really gonna make the difference in an accident with the way most of you people drive in your rally cars...heh...

HA!! You so funny!

But there is another thing I never thought I'd see.....a TLs owner calling a GTP slow. GTP's slow? WRX's slow? I think slow would best describe the mentality of some of you guys posting in this thread.

Wanna find out.....

GTP slow I guess.
If you wanna come a little south to CT I know some people who could show you how slow they are. Matter of fact I think I could get the message to some in your area. I believe May 17th RTE 9 in Framingham there will be a dealership meet/cruise night going on. Maybe you could head that way and introduce yourself? If you're intrested let me know and I could post more details.
