30000 mile service....????
30000 mile service....????
My car just hit 30000 miles and I know that it is a major service interval for the car. I called the dealer and they told me everything that they are going to do at the serviceand the price is $269.00. Now what i was wondering is
1. Am i going to overpay?
2 Is this service only done by the dealer or can I get it done at another honda/acura specialist shop?
3. Have most of you guys had this service done and where?
Thanks

That is a very good price from what I have seen/read. I paid slightly more for mine. I got mine done at the Acura dealer.... I think a Honda dealer could do it just as easily, unless they really do a valve adjustment, then it might not be as easy for them.
best thing to do it yourself. But, if you dont wana do it yourself, try your mechanic (not just any mechanic, but the mechanic you trust and know very well). Bring him Honda fluids and filters(buy from dealer), and ask him to change your oil, rotate tires, change A/C filter, air filter, change tranny fluid, brake fluid, and coolant.
You will save lots of money.
If you dont have a mechanic you trust, then request dealership to do things you tell them.... don't get one of those "30K package". They are way too expensive and really dont have much value.

you might be better off requesting them to do specific things rather than getting a fixed price package... do some math, and see what is better.

my dealer told me that they dont do a tranny fluid change at 30k so basically its a 400 dollar oil change and visual inspection. So i just skipped it. Changed the oil, air, and dropped in some fuel cleaner myself. Took the other 350 bucks and went to atlantic city for the weekend.
fast
They told me it was going to be :
tranny flush, oil change, oil filter , ac filter, tighten brake line, change the wipers, balanceand rotate tires, top off all fluids, and run a computer diagnostic for anyother problems. I dont think i could do all of that myself and I just figure that if its included in the price then I might as well have them do it for me right? Furthermore I think that Acura would probably do the best and most thurogh job.

This is what my dealer charges, according to their website.

I'm due for the 45K service. Is $195 a good price for that?

Some Acura mechanic told me that Honda brake fluid is not very good, and needs to be replaced acording to a schedule. Other stuff, like coolant, is not so sensitive... and you can go over the recommended cycle (reasonably) without any problems. I changed both of my coolant and brake fluid at 30K miles, and at that time I had the car for 3 years. In fact, when I bought some coolant from Acura dealer, the canister on the back said "if used properly can provide protection up to 60K miles or 5 years". So I dont know whom to belive. In fact, new Acura TL says that you can go for like 100K miles without any major scheduled maintance. Maybe Honda got new improved formula for Coolant, I dont know.
I never replaced my power steering fluid (the manual never says anything abour replacing it), but I did have to add some when it got bellow Low...

Dealer (McDavid) wants over 500 for the 30k, when I told him I had done the AC and air filters he would take off the price of the parts but no labor. Now I have an idea of what to ask for.

I think that's a northeast metro thing. Unless you're in the sticks like in NH most dealers want $150 for regular maintenance, and 500 for the 30K, 60K etc... Or at least that's what the dealers in a 50 mile radiius from me charge (yep, I called them all).It kinda sucks when you hear of people getting prices of half that, but I guess that's the price we pay for living in the better parts of the USA
If you dont have the money just get the oil changed and have a mechanic check everything out that would be done at the 30,000 mile service. But the onlything is that ACURA has to check your tranny for the recall. Other than that I think you are getting TAXED on your service. 500 is a rip.

Sounds like a good price though.
