2001 SEMA CL Type-S (Pics Revisted)
2001 SEMA CL Type-S (Pics Revisted)
I keep getting requests for better pics of the SEMA CL...
So until I have a chance to get a new page up in the garage I figured I'd make this post too FAQ.
[insert]
OK, I guess not everyone knows about this. (Try using the garage people, heh)
This car was on display BY ACURA at the last SEMA (Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association) Show in Las Vegas.
You cannot buy this car, nor can you buy anything that is on it (Wheels, Bodykit, etc)
It is likely you will never see anything on this car available from Acura. The only part of this car that I can imagine making it to the accessory brochure is the lip spoiler.
Nobody has any firm idea on what this would cost to produce aftermarket... and it is likely that a kit this complete couldn't be produced at reasonable prices. It is just altered too much from stock... especially the profile.
Please resume drooling...

The pictures were taken by Snook.
The car was made by Honda/Acura to judge response at the SEMA show to the mods.
The car was a one of a kind. Costs including exterior and interior was around $20,000.

But I should be going back again this year so I'll see if there is a new SEMA show CL

It's not that hard to get tickets, you just need to know someone in the aftermarket business.

My future wife (can’t spell fiance??) works for a company that imports and exports cars for some local performance/aftermarket shops and she always gets some tickets to get in. A lot of her customers have booths there.

Either
1-in Japan
2-At headquarters
3-In a garage like that cobra
They should take it to car shows and make money.
if i'm a betting person it's a honda's reserch and development garage cause a couple years back about 98 or 99. they had this new body style Accord (v-6) completely stripped the interior out of it(reminded me of a nascar interior kinda of) and race buckets (wait it gets better). they had this chrome illusion paint job on it( it's where it changes color on what way you look at it)(VERY SHARP BUT VERY EXPENSIVE) they had it piped, spoiler about all riced out. anyhow they had it on display. I was thinking about offering Honda something on it recently so I told my dad(he's kinda of high up in Honda he's been there 20 years) to ask where it's at and how much they want. He told me later it's sitting over at R and D garage collecting dust(i guess they never drive it the way i took it) and they won't sell it cause it really isn't Accord. best way to decribe it is a Accord V-6 type R.
Anyone have the pics of the prototyping of the Acura CL-S? The Claymodel pics? I used to have them but damn... lost it due to a hard drive crash. Someone let me know where I can find them?
