2001 CL TYPE S transmission compatibility?

Hi everyone I have a 2001 type S automatic that has transmission problems. I'm over the extended warranty period however. I was looking into a used tranny and was wondering which ones are compatible from which years. Also if i get one from a 2003 model will that solve all the issues or will there need to be mods done to that tranny to ensure a longer life. Thanks

How many miles do you have. The warranty for the tranny is 100K miles, and I believe 10 years.

7/100K mile warranty. And if you over 100K your could try & get a tranny under warranty by asking a dealer. They may "good will" it.
Any 01-03 CLS-TLS auto tranny will bolt in. However you may have the same problem again.

hi

My warranty is over cause of mileage. I need to get a new or used tranny but am thinking that if i get a 01-03 cls tls tranny it will have a same recurring problem what can I do.

the last revision to the 5AT tranny came out february of 2005. so far no proven reported failures of this rev have surfaced. you can always get one of these or you can opt for a dr. evil tranny for roughly the same price. one of the other guys around here (Serge) is running supercharged with the 4at dr. evil with no issues. the only drawback is that no one has had a 5AT version long enough to know if it will fail or not. if we can judge by dr. evil's track record though then it should be ok.

Doesn't matter if your over the 100K mark. Have you tried asking a dealer to "good will" a replacement? Some will do it cause they know the tranny has problems. If it was replaced before you have a better case.

I was reading that the transmission codes are different on these cars based on the Wikipedia page. Are they the same exact transmission model?

slowbasersx, the forum member you quoted has not logged into this forum since July 2016.

If you have an automatic CL and its OEM transmission has failed, your best replacement option is to source an 06-07 Accord V6 (non-hybrid) BAYA coded transmission to replace it.

zeta,
I know it’s an old topic but I’m struggling to find a good answer after hours of research. I just need a transmission that drops in. Will the TL type s tranny drop in? Also does the 06-07 accord v6 transmission drop in without mods? I’ve heard for some transmission (specifically the odyssey transmission) that you have to modify the transmission in order to work.
thanks,
slowbasersx

the same generation 02-03 TL-S; 01-03 CL-S model years.
the same failure prone defective design flaw
the same engine to trans. case bolt pattern
the same old headache when they 'crap the bed'
the same mistake if you replace one for the other

Im just replacing it to resell because our friends car crapped out on them last year. Other than the tranny the car is mint with only 120k miles. Found a TL type s at a yard today that had already had a new tranny installed so I’m set. Thanks!

If you're going to sell it, especially to a friend wouldn't it be considerate to let them decide on the solution?

After all, many on here will tell you that putting another 2001 CL/TL Type S transmission (MGFA or B7WA) in there is not the best (long term) way to go and if you are sourcing from a junk yard, the price for that is reasonably close to the price of a BAYA from an 06-07 accord.
