1st time at the track today

Well, finally took my 1800 mile old 6 speed to the track today. It was about 85-80* while I was there, and humidity was about 40-45% when I left the house. I really wasn't expecting to have such a problem with wheel hop. :o It was either bog it or get axle hop and spin. Anyways, here's the best slip of the day. I got 5 runs in, but I think I could have maybe gotten the hang of the launch better and with some cooler temps maybe picked up a tenth or two. This was run not powershifted, although on my last two runs I did and it didn't seem to have a big effect on my ET or mph.

Reaction....... 1.224 (didnt really care about my rt)
60 ft ........... 2.342
330ft ........... 6.350
1/8 ET .......... 9.645
1/8 mph ........ 74.87
1000' ET ....... 12.459
1/4 ET .......... 14.841
1/4 mph ........ 94.52

I'm relatively pleased with the mph, but I was kinda hoping for a 14.6-14.7.

Does this look about right for the temps and conditions or is it slow? I had a 1/2 tank of gas, and zero weight loss. Still had the jack, spare, etc all in the car.

2.34s 60' time is not bad. if you hit 2.24s, you may hit 14.6s. This is good. I guess your CLS-6 will dyno at 220 WHP.

I'm going to be dyno'ing it within a month or two, so I can get a baseline before I start doing mods. What's the best 60' anyone has run on a bone stock 6 speed? I can't see myself dropping the 60' by a full second because the wheelhop was present so much.

I assure you

#1. We are working on the upgrade bushing to get rid of wheel hope...

#2. The stock tires did you no justice at the track... EVERYONE on this board will agree!.

#3. were the runs in your car before or after all the matting Dyno insulation?

by looking at your other thread (the dyno mat 1), you should of just re-installed the drivers seat and took it to the track...

I think you'll pick up better times after your first oil change. For god sakes.....you only have 1800 miles on the thing. I now have almost 45,000 miles on my car, and I can honestly say that it got quicker as the miles were racked up!

I'd try again at around 5 to 6,000 miles at lower temps in the fall. Our engines really don't like hot weather.

Sorry yeah I meant a tenth, not a second lol. Although a 1.3 60' would be a-ok by me.

Also that dynamat is in my Mustang, not the CL. I did have a bag of ice on the intake, ut it really didn't seem to help any. I was running 94-95mph regardless of wheher I was hot lapping or letting it cool down.

I ran:

60ft. 2.283
330 6.252
1/8 9.464
MPH 76.40
1000 12.206
1/4 14.530
MPH 96.67

launching at 1500 rpm with only intake. Did you drop your front tire pressure down? That's a good time for your first time at the track. Work on your launch and you will get better. The first time I went I couldn't break 14's.
:o

I was going to drop the fronts, but it was wheel-hopping so bad that I didn't think that would help at all. What were the weather conditions like for that run, and do you think the intake was worth anything?

The temp was 90 and it was humid as hell. The intake doesn't help dramatically, but it sounds great. I'd say the intake would be good for a tenth at the most..?..? The first time I went stock I ran a best of 15.1 but I didn't know how to launch yet and didn't drop the tire pressure.

I ran 14.2 bone-stock on stock tires.

what is the definition of "power shifting" and how do you do it. doesn't it mess up the synchros?

Basically it means ot letting off the gas pedal between gears. Some people say it's not using the clutch, but that juts seems too risky for most cars nowadays. I could easily powershift my CL after a couple runs to get comfortable with the clutch disengage point and the shifter throw.

when i used to have my gsr, people used to tell me about that, but it just seems too risky to just try and go from one gear to next (w/o the clutch?)? is this right? and if you're supposed to "feel it out", then how do you go about that?
