Can't tell if this is a Type S or not, but he's either at the front of the pack, or is the Pace car. Interesting.

Streetracing.org says this pic was taken at...
"High Performance Driving School
N.A.S.A (national auto sports assocation) had their High Performance Driving School on Feb 3rd and 4th at Sears Point California. This event was to teach drivers how to drive their car in high performance situations. If you want to drive your car fast (and should do so safely), then this is an opportunity for you. The street schools are held almost monthly and cost from $150 on up each day."

Well...I guess it really isn't about beating each other, even though you know everyone is in it for that, but rather for learning what your car can take. Look at the wrecked pictures...ouch.
I really would be interested in this, but if I crash my car, I would be in deep trouble. Are the normal rules/laws the same...like if someone hits you...their insurance pays?

I've never seen a pace car with a number taped to its side. Homemade-looking at that.
A question tho - Why is it that some folks must quote a post with a LARGE PICTURE that has just been posted? Please be kind and think of your slow connecting bretheren.

Hey Guys,
How did you get this picture already? This is my car at Sears Point on Saturday Feb. 3rd. The #21 you see on the door lasted only my first lapping session. It peeled back quickly and was replaced with white shoe polish on the rear side windows. I say this, because it means these shots were taken fairly early. My first lapping session was at about 11:00.
Yes, those are SSR wheels, with Kumho R compound track tires.
I have now run Laguna Seca and Sears Point in the CL-S. I am adding Buttonwillow on the 24th (probably) and Laguna Seca again on March 4&5. Anyone that has an opportunity to try some track lapping sessions/time trials should give it a shot. It is a blast!

Droideka and Astro,
Laguna Seca was my first ever track event and I was driving on street tires not the Kumho's. I did not get under two minutes but did get into the very low two's. Best was 2:06 I believe. With the Kumho's, lighter wheels, and more experience, I will be looking to go under two on March 4/5.
Astro,
Good observation at Sears Point. The yellow porshce behind the Louts and the Boxter is a 911 cab. with hard top. There was also an 01' yellow turbo with factory race seats and custom rollbar covered in black leather (stitched with yellow thread to match the exterior) that was awsome. His car was in a different run group.

Kevin,
Several LSIR questions:
1. How did the CL-S handle the corkscrew? (8, 8A)
2. What was your speed into the corkscrew at turn 7?
3. Was that scary or what?
4. What top speed did you reach on the straight after turn 6?
5. Where you in SS or D4?
Thanks! Being in Texas I can only dream of driving at LSIR.

I intentionally left VSA on during my first lapping session to get a sense of areas that were going to challange the CL-S. The lower portion of the corkscrew 8a had the vsa light flashing. After turning it off for the rest of the weekend, the corkscrew was fine. However, when people missed the correct line on 8 it would cause them to apex to early at 8a. This resulted in their inside wheel dropping into the dirt spewing dirt all over the correct line of 8a.
I don't know my exact speed at turn 7, but you are climbing uphill between 6 and 7 redlining 2nd and sometimes having to go into third. There is a short braking zone between 7 and 8, so your speed at the top of the corkscrew isn't that fast.
I was in ss the entire time.
The fastest part of the track was between turn 11 and turn two. I remember seening 100mph going under the bridge at the top of the rise. It is blind on the other side with a very slight turn. The pucker factor caused me to lift and then brake usually way to soon. This is the same part of the track where the C.A.R.T cars on running 180-190mph during qualifying and braking so late it is sick!!!

I was pleased with my performance, but realize that I still have plenty to learn. The CL-S did very well, better than I expected. Even the SS tranny was ok. This was my first experience with track tires. They extend the cars handling well beyond high performance street tires (I run SO2 Pole Positions on the street). The car would benifit from a 500lb weight loss more than it would from and increase in hp. I'd like to see a limited slip transaxle and closer ratio gearing in the first four gears. As is, the car is still a hell of a lot of fun to drive on the track. If any of you have an opportunity to do some laps in your car - go for it!
