TPMS on aftermarket wheels?

Hi,

I'm talking to some wheel and tire shops about new wheels and have asked for quotes on adding the TPMS sensors to the new wheels and they've quoted some pretty high prices ($60/ea) and have suggested that I just go without. I can see sets of TPMS sensors for as little as $72 on eBay though.

Should I just go without? And what happens if I go without? I just get an error message?

If I go without I can get a really great price on some A-spec wheels.

thanks,

I should really use Google search rather than the site search to find my answers....modified question - do most aftermarket wheels accept the OEM sensors? I read in the black market for example that the a-spec wheels have two versions, one that accepts the TPMS and one that doesn't - does it matter that much?

This is a sample set of sensors I was looking at:

thanks,

The TPMS can work on any rims as long as you have the right adapters.
Make sure you are buying OEM TPMS for the TSX because they automatically work without any programing, but make sure its made for the TSX.
I know because I have 2 different set of rims/tires with TPMS and they will work automatically without programing as soon as you start rolling on them.
Hope that helps.

I think you'll find that most new wheels will accept the sensors, but I'd suggest that you confirm that before you buy if you're going to use them. It doesn't phase me to run without since I'm not much of a fan of TPMS to begin with (just something else to go wrong). But.... TPMS I fear is becoming one of those things that some people are getting used to and don't want to be without (as with many of the supposed "benefits" of the nanny state that this country has become)(and for those that may not know, the only reason that the tire pressure monitoring systems have become standard equipment across the board is because the federal government forced it upon the car manufacturers after the Ford Explorer Firestone tire fiasco ten years or so ago). If you decide to run without, you'll have to clear the TPMS warning message when you start the car, the you'll have to live with the little orange exclamation point on the dash (and of course you'll actually have to get off your butt occasionally and check the tire pressures)(which by the way, everyone should be doing anyway).

I just bought for sensors off ebay, they are oem sensors and put them on OZ Superleggers when I did my tires. The installer had no issues at all and it only took a drive around the block for the system to pick up the new sensors. I don't think you will need adapters as long as you get OEM sensors.

Good to know. I think I bought the same ones ($72) but haven't tried them yet. I'm glad they actually work.
