I won

OK, its nothing special, but I did win a damn good stoplight drag against another luxury car.

Me: 2006 TSX 5AT, stock
Him: 2006 Benz C230

Both of us have temporary tags

It happened at a light right off my exit of 270. I knew he wanted to drag when he creeped up to my right for no reason. I creeped, he creeped. I creeped, he creeped. We made eye contact, I smiled, he creeped forward more. OK its gonna be on.

I put mine in SS mode, which I'm convinced is the only reason I won and he didn't, he either didn't have it or didn't use it. I'm not even sure that car comes in a stick, but it sure shifted low as though it was an auto and he never had a chance. I pulled ahead immidiatly and ran 1st to about 5k before I shifted, because I thought either I had him bad or he wasn't going to race afterall. But no, I wasn't more than 1/2 car length ahead, and he was still revving hard. He pulled ahead momentarily while I waited for some throttle response from the 3k-5k range of 2nd, but after it caught I zoomed ahead and he never got closer. It went for quite a while, top speeds of over 90 but under 100, even around a few slight curves. The lights were all green and there was NO ONE on the road (it was late) and we were lucky with no cops. I got all the way to my home street before I slowed. Maybe 1.5 miles. Tons of fun. I *almost* never do this kind of thing. My first little action in my new baby.

Specs on his according to mbusa.com:
MSRP $29,975*
Engine 2.5L 24-valve V-6 engine
Net Power 201 hp @ 6,200 rpm
Net Torque 181 lb-ft @ 2,700 - 5,000 rpm

So really its a similar class car. Kinda funny.

Nice kill Was it a Kompressor? My folks have that car. I dont think its as fast as my TSX though based off the few times I drove it.

nice kill, from a stoplight in a 5AT, no less. Those C230 and C240s seem beatable, though my only experience racing them is on the freeway, beating them out on an onramp, etc. My uncle has a C320, and it doesn't seem all that fast.

Good luck with the "aggressive" break-in approach as well.

I remember when my TSX still had temporary tags and I got a huge reality check from an older BMW 540.

I went on to return the favor to a wanna-be hotshot in a brand new altima 2.5

circle of life

Only one way to find out:

Go race your mom!

After that, come back here and post how you did.

HAHA, awesome.

I'm well over the break in period, I'm at 1200 miles now. I have a long commute and I drive *a lot*. I hereby encourage everyone to hunt for low end mercedes to run with. (low-end mercedes... is that an oxymoron?)

I should mention, my other car is a 98 E320 4matic, so I know the Benzes pretty well. My E class shifts so low I honestly think the SS could beat even the bigger 320/350 V6s, since they're tuned to be extremely quiet and smooth, and never delivery performance. I have yet to figure out how to get my E to even approach redline, and I've had it forever. If it was an E500 tho, watch out, you'll be smoked.

...In other news, I have a 98 E320 for sale

Its setup with a jogging (jigsaw) pattern to shift into low gears... there's no way to use it as a sport shifter. It would be dangerous and reckless really, that car just isn't made for it.

...and whats wrong with that Mr. MT? I have no complaints about my TSX being slow, I knew full well what it was when I bought it, and will defend my AT to its death. If you've seen my early posts on my purchase decision I went AT because I drive a horrific stop and go commute. In another life or my next move/job I hope to live where it is reasonable to drive an MT again.

IIRC, all the C230's are supercharged.

But yeah, my friend has one and it definitely feels slower than our TSX.

Not so. The previous generation C230s were definitely supercharged. However, this latest 230 is not supercharged. It uses a 2.5L V6 motor without the supercharger.

I've seen C230's without the Kompressor badge...

As CG pointed out I drive an AT myself. It just seems like all the racing stories posted in this thread are by AT drivers. Owning one it just seems strange and almost shocking that anyone would have the balls to actually race with that tarnny.

It'd be close on the A4 with the slushboxes. Don't bother with A3s however, the DSG will own you. My wife's A3 is at least a full second faster to 60 then my '04 6MT.

I'd bet strong money even my AT SS could beat an IS250. I test drove that car extensively and its really nothing special in terms of performance. Its a great luxury car, but I now think of it as an overpriced TSX with a different drive system.

BTW: Dom, sorry for pickin on you, I thought you were sarcastically commenting about my transmission choice. Stay away from those Turbo Porsche's though.

No, no never.

Now your 06 wheels, thats a different story.

I don't feel too bad about the Porsche. He only had me by several hundred car lengths.
