Question Trunk lid switch quit working

Noticed that when I press the black rubber bar switch above the license plate, the trunk will not unlatch. And yes, the doors are unlocked while trying this. Noticed that when I press the keyfob to lock/unlock the car, the trunk lid makes no clicking noise like in the past.

However, if I press the unlock on the keyfob the trunk lid will pop open. They must be using two solenoids to unlatch the system I guess? Anyone else have a trunk switch go bad?

Try unlock the doors with the door button first (not the button on the remote). Then unlock the trunk with the trunk latch.

Make sure you didn't lock the trunk in the keyhole next to the drivers seat.

yeah... I had the same exact problem. I lost my keyfob, so i only have the car key, and it's really inconvenient for me...

OT, but buy a new fob, its relatively inexpensive and you can program it yourself

Yes, its a small switch that slides side-to-side with no description by it. On one side it doesn't allow the trunk to be unlocked from the trunk's location, only from inside the car and the fob. On the other it allows you to unlock from anywhere

It is done for valet security purposes.

Wow. I thought you were BS'n us, but here is a rough pic of it. Makes no difference if toggled, the trunk lid won't react. Yes, the doors are unlocked and the trunk lock is deactivated. I took the compartment down to make sure it was plugged in OK. I guess the circuitry or solenoid died.

Angry Update!!! Please help!!

I am absolutely furious if what I have discovered turns out be true. I changed out my cabin filter today and decided to also take a 2nd look. I wanted to make sure the trunk release wiring was plugged in properly to all the connections behind the glove compartment and perhaps save me a hassle to the dealership.

From the pics below, it looks like someone (assuming a dealership did this for security reasons), cut into the trunk override wiring and respliced it. It has duct tape and electrical tape which looks nothing like a factory install if you ask me. Can someone else take a look and confirm if this is supposed to be a one wire piece under the dash, or is it a spliced connection clamped together with that white knuckle and hanging string thread piece that prevents the box from completely dropping down.

I am supposed to be the original owner, but again, this car was a dealer trade from Bloomington Acura and had 38 miles on it before it arrived to me. This car had been banged up cosmetically once I took closer inspection in the daylight the next day after delivery. So it doesn't surprise me if this stunt was used.

that's the original wiring. mine is exactly the same. it's not actually spiced, it's taped up for protection and connected by plastic there.

Honda sure has performed a very odd way of folding it over to make it appear to be a crimped connection with duct tape that doesnt match the rest of the materials. Thank you so much for checking.

Ohh, and nevermind the paranoia!
