SS Mode, Too lazy to Downshift
I like to upshift, but I get lazy with downshifting. Is it necessary? Or should I just "downshift"? If so, what's the most appropriate method? Got 5AT (in 06) just b/c heavy traffic. Every once in a while would like to shift just to remininse the old manual days. Thanks.

Are you serious?! I personally think the SS mode is one of the more retarded things auto manufacturers have come up with in the last 15 years or so, but come on...if you are to lazy to shift (up or down), PUT IT IN D. If you want to shift, buy a manual. After driving my wife's 05 and checking out SS mode I had to stop because I was about to get in a wreck from laughing so hard at how ridiculous this "feature" is. There is nothing sporty about sport shif if you have ever driven a manual.

Which actually brings me to a question, do I need to resurface these rotors before I put these pads in?

Thanks for the fast reply. I downshift when I feel like it, but don't do it as much b/c afraid it might damage the engine somewhere. I rather brake harder than let the downshifting slow it down for me. Brakes, I figure, are cheaper than engine maintenance. Anyways, love the TSX more and more. Especially with this forum. Very cool site.
BTW...I notice the car downshifts automatically from 5->4->3->1 and never to 2. Why is that?

Ooh ooh another question...
The dealer said it's perfectly okay to drive...lets say 45 mph...then shift it to SS. It feels the same. No bump or slowing down. So I agree with him. What do you think? And I notice that in Auto Mode, when you're driving at like 70-80...just cruising, if you want to accelarate hard...it "downshifts" to its own 4th gear and gets extra boost. You can't get that boost in SS unless you downshift. Is my interpretation accurate? Is that when VTEC kicks in? SS and VTEC is new to me....still reading up on it. =) Thanks a bunch!

Did your car come with an owner's manual by any chance? IIRC, the manual has a section in it dedicated to explaining exactly how SportShift works.
You might want to check that out. Although I guess if you're too lazy to bump the shifter fore or aft, you're probably too lazy to open the manual.

Pretty sums it up there Dan
but the never to 2nd gear comment, well, if you looks at the manual, it even said it never shifts to 2nd, i think... because you can start your car at 2nd gear, and there's something related...i don't know..i forgot. but it shifts to one when you are under 10km or something, or at a complete stop~

One of the questions someone posed in this thread was:
"Will there be more wear on engine/tranny for the 5AT if we were to downshift for the purposes of engine braking?"
I was reading in the TL threads that they were split...some thought there would be others said no.
I downshift with SS for engine braking about half the time; I figure I can save on brake wear and I believe that there is a fuel cutoff which restricts further fuel comsumption.
Thoughts?
