RPM Surges

I have a 2007 TSX. When I apply the brake at a higher speed the rpm's surge to about 3,000 or higher until I pop the gas pedal to bring it down. It started as a once in awhile event and now happens every time, seems to be downhill or on an even surface. I have 65K miles on the car and the dealer said to bring it in for a 60K service and they would adjust the idle. I'm thinking that isn't the problem. The car doesn't jerk or do anything except suck gas.

Check vacuum brake booster line and vacuum brake booster diaphragm for leaks. See following links or similar for procedure. Leaking vacuum will cause engine speed to increase.

I'll assume your car has an automatic transmission and it's perfectly normal. The transmission mimics an MT and downshifts as you brake. The increase in RPM's is due to it being in a lower gear. The AT in the TSX can "learn" your driving style and will react to how you drive (to a degree....). If it is in fact acting differently (like downshifting more often or under different circumstances), it could be from any number of reasons. A big one could be the weather. Emissions controls have to operate in a range of climates, and ambient temperature plays a big part. It's discouraging that your dealer couldn't have figured this out and explained it to you.
