04 6MT clutch/throw-out bearing issues...

Hi everybody...

I have an '04 w/ 61,xxx miles, and have been experiencing the common throw-out bearing squeak in my car. I've got a couple questions:

1. Since the issue with the t/o bearing seems to be common, is it smart to replace it with the same oe piece, or should I look for something from the aftermarket? (I plan on doing the complete clutch replacement, even though the rest of the clutch seems to be fine)

2. I've been quoted $1100 for (oe) parts and labor. That's significantly higher than the last time I had a clutch replaced (00 Prelude). What do you think?

Do you find that it's more apparent in colder weather? I'm in northern Indiana, so it's starting to get chilly...

My observation is the same. In cold weather the problem is more apparent. Easy reproducible when going up hill and the clutch pedal is half way pressed AND the gas pedal is just a little pressed - low rpm - ~1600rpm or so. When step on the gas pedal more (3000-4000rpm) the problem could not be reproduced. It looks like some resonance is created on 1500-2000rpm when going up hill from a complete stop.

Just had a quote prepared in case dealership didn't cover the fix for mine. That sounds about right. Mine included Exedy stage 1, Act flywheel, tax and labor.

Sorry for not getting back into this thread sooner. :p

Suprisingly, my nearest Acura dealer quoted me $700 for the clutch replacement. I'll probably get it done in the spring.

Too bad, though. The clutch feels fine.

My '05 6MT only has 43K on it and I have the Throw out bearing issue. At first, on cold days, when I would start the car and put the car in reverse or 1st, as I would release the clutch, the car would make a noise like someone was blowing on a bottle as it would start moving. The noise would disappear once the engine rpm went past 1500 and I would not hear it again until the next start.

Now, in cold weather, on slow take offs from read lights, sometimes I hear a squeak as I release the clutch in 1st gear and again when I'm shifting from 1 to 2.

Same here my clutch is in really good shape, but I'm thinking might as well replace the clutch if they're going to have to replace the throw out bearing.

To top it off, my clutch pedal click in warm weather is back. They've quoted $500 for getting the master cylinder replaced (the car is out of factory warranty). Given that the clutch throw out bearing replacement is about $1000, I'm going to price 3yr/36000 extended Acura warranty. It might be worth it. What do you guys think?

Sorry to dig up an old thread.. but i've recently started to develop the same Throw-Out bearing issue... the clutch itself feels the same as the last 140k that i've owned her (though maybe a tad harder to engage smoothly in 1st.. but that could just be in my head)

my question is.. what would happen if i waited to replace the throw out bearing? i'd like to see if i can ride it out for a while and replace the entire clutch while they need to get in there...

Other than this issue.. my 04 6MT has had 143k trouble free miles! (not even the a/c, console lights.. *knock on wood*)

Thanks in advance!

Same issue with my car. 63 right now. It's only happening when i'm slipping the clutch in a road at high pitch.

I think it's a problem related to vibration. I'm not worried about this at all.

Nothing can happen really. You can loose you clutch but you'll hear at that time the bearing all day long and every time you'll press the clutch.

Don't worry!

I have the same issue on my 240SX, I replaced two transmissions with the same problem, beat the hell out of it and it never broke. It's a expensive fix for nothing.

bump. Ive got the same problem on my 04 TL w/ 115k. The squeak goes away with the clutch depressed. Im not magnifying problems by driving with it? Clutch is fine. Shifts great. No sense doing a new clutch if i dont need to
