Removing the Hazard Light Button

I want to remove my head unit to get to a rattle that's been driving me nuts, and there is a screw I need to remove that sits behind the hazard light button. From the service manual and doing a search in this forum, it looks like you are supposed to just pull these out, but I am having the toughest time doing this.

Is there a special technique that I am not aware of? I can barely grab hold of the button, let alone get enough leverage to pull it out. Is there a tool I could use? Any tips?

I'm not sure how it comes out, but if it's like you say and just prying them out a panel popper should do the job. Or you can try one of those very small flat head screw drivers that you get to tighten eye glasses

At least for '04-'05....

The hazard switch comes out as part of the black rectangular panel that's between the two air vents. The switch itself (triangle) is screwed to the back of this panel.
