Removing Cup Holder/Console? Problem Inside

I have a problem where one of the audio cables that connects to the Aux I use for my iPod became disconnected inside my center console. There was a post over at the Aux FAQ about removing the cup holder that seemed to note that you could just pull up the holder, but I don't see where I can pull up just the cup holder.
Here's a pic of my cupholder, and it looks like it's just fully attached to the rest of the console to me. What portion exactly pops out? Does anyone have a pic you can share?
Thanks!

the whole wood peice comes out. its easiest to pull up around the parking brake and pull up from the front near the seat heater switches.

The whole trims piece comes out including the area around the shift knob.

This is my favorite set of center console removal instructions:

Thanks guys, I'll definitely check that out to help me do it. The post I saw before indicated that you could just pop out the cup holder, which didn't make sense as I looked at it, so this is excellent. Hopefully it will go smoothly.

I can't seem to edit my posts anymore, hmm....one question: If I just need to get at the RCA jack backing as below, do you think I'll need to disconnect the heated seat controls (wouldn't want to damage them now that I'm no longer in Cali) or pop up a lot of the clips towards the front? Thanks!

Yes the center trim will not come out unless you disconnect the harnesses. It's pretty easy to disconnect them. Just look for a button/tab to push in on the right side of the harnesses.

schalliol, did you ever get it removed? Mind sharing how?
I'm able to pop out the two rear clips using arcticcl9's method but can't get anywhere past that
I figured I'd wing it when it came time to remove the seat heater things since I couldn't find instructions but I didn't even get that far.
I was using these diagrams as reference but they didn't help.

If you have the rear 2 clips off, get the front 2 clips off by gripping inside the shift boot and pulling up the front (but don't bend the cupholder console). then grip in the e-brake hole and the shift boot and pull up the middle

I've got an AT
But it looks like the trim around the gear selector is a separate piece I can pry up from the front with the 'not an ashtray' open. Then pull up the center console piece from there. Worth a shot... Thanks.

Like X said. Work your way from the back to the front. There are about 6 clips or so. For removing the middle. Open the cupholder and grab onto area between the beginining of the slot for the ebrake and inside the cupholder.

It takes some force when you remove it for the first time, but it will come out. It gets easier the more times you do it. I've taken mine off at least 20 times. Just make sure not to bend it.

To elaborate on what was said earlier, I just completed this process as people documented it above. I didn't have that specific wrench, so I just grabbed a long screw driver (thick) and wrapped it in a rag to make sure that there wouldn't be scratches. After the back two were popped off I pulled up between the e-brake slot and the spot useable when the cupholder door is at 45°. This wasn't enough to pop the next set, so using the screw driver I continued to apply pressure and at the same time pull up there to keep the panels from bending. After that, I pulled on the edge next to the "not an ashtray" and again on the e-brake cupholder slot, which freed the whole area. I almost didn't have to disconnect the heated seat controls, but removing one connection made it easier.

Thanks so much guys, every post was useful.

edit: this is one of the scariest things I've done, but all is good now!

I have followed the advice on this thread, but still cannot get the damn center console off. I was able to release the rear clips by prying at the back of the parking brake opening. I was also able to release the middle clips by pulling at the cup holder slot and the shift boot. However, I cannot get the front to budge at all. Does anyone have any other tips on releasing these clips. I have just been pulling on the sides of the shift boot as hard as I can. I am pretty frusturated with this whole procedure. :angryfire

By the way, be careful pulling around shift boot because there is actually a seperate piece of molding around the shifter. I did not realize this until I broke the clips that hold it on.

Open the Not an Ashtray and then try to get under the front clips front there. Since you already have the backs off they should come off. Don't bend the piece, but pull hard on it. It should pop up. It's gets easier the more you do it. I've probably taken mine off at least 15 times.

Sorry to drag up a way-old thread, but I have a question: can you replace just the lid of the cupholders? Is it expensive?

I was cleaning my car and noticed a smudge of something or other on the lid, and I used an Armor-All wipe to really get at it, and I think I inadvertantly took the finish right off the lid. Now I have a big shiny black spot about the size of a quarter, surrounded by an area of faint whitish color, as if that finish is starting to wear off. It really looks like ass, and I'd like to replace the lid if it isn't insanely hard or $$$.

I noticed when I opened my cup holder that there are two small screws under the hinged (left) side. If you open the lid at about a 45 degree angle you can see and get to them pretty easily. If those screws were removed would just the cup holder itself come out??
