Rear Wheel - LOUD Metal Scraping Sound

I've been having this issue with my 04 TSX for a good month now.

My rear right side is making a very nasty metal scraping sound.

As my friend said one time, it sounds like I'm dragging a wrench. It's annoying when I'm driving, and unbarable when I have the window down.

This sound happens regardless of if I'm pressing on the brakes or not, just random.

Anyone have any ideas on why this is happening? I am going into Acura on Tuesday, but would like to be prepared what they are going to slap me with.

I had this happen randomly to my TSX not long ago. Took it to the dealer and their response was that, for whatever reason, the dust shield behind the brake discs had leaned over and was rubbing against the brake disc. They simply repositioned the dust shield and the sound went away.

very good posibility it's as simple as that, or a piece of small rock lodge between the shield and rotor. In either case, I would verify the rotor is not scored.

Appreciate the response guys.

I'm at 46000 miles. I'm going to try to get them to fix all the tiny rattles too.. but we'll see.

I had the exact same situtaion. It's 45000 miles. The metal scraping sound started one week ago on the left rear wheel and now it seems the noise sometmes from the right rear wheel as well. I am going to take my car to the dealer this week, but 99% of the times, the noise doesn't occur when the technician sits in the car trying to identify the problem.

Scottsan, did the dealer fix the problem ?

Exclamation Dust Shield bent against the disk

I started to hear a rubbing sound like the tires rubbing agains the body. Looked and it was ok. Later I was driving and I started to hear LOUD Metal Scraping sound. Turned out to be the caliper. The top bolt that held the caliper in place was gone allowing the it to swing down against the dust shield and bend it into the disk when backing up. It was a gawd alful noise!!

I brought to the dealer and they are getting me a new setup...

My problem was turned out to be the braking pad. It's almost gone for both rear tires. No more noise after replacing the pad.

It came from the dealer that way. So maybe Carmax...
