Rattles, lets get this dealt with once and for all.
Rattles, lets get this dealt with once and for all.
OK, I am willing to help organize and put together some type of letter or petition that we can give to Acura showing that x number of people are all having the same rattle issues. I am talking about the door rattles, specifically the ones that seem to be amplified during high bass music, and may be related to the power windows.
The question is will we get enough people to participate and provide the neccesary info. I would imagine we would need full names, VIN #s, and maybe city or dealership info.
Is this worth doing, or am I wasting my time? Some feedback please.
If everyone participates, including those who have the rattles but dont care...we can get a good list to send to Acura of America and Acura of Canada.

I'll participate. The rattle is not only tied to loud music, but also has something to do with driving over rougher gravel. The roads we have here in Portland are horrible and I don't think 26 has been re-paved in a decade.
Somebody previously mentioned that rolling down the windows slightly and then rolling it back up fixes the problem and I agree, I've been doing that since the first week I took delivery back in May.

soopa your really trying to win over the hearts of us TSX owners. Like Tinky said, the TSX is better built then the TL and CL so we won't have those problems so :P
Seriously we'll see in a few years if your right.

I'm with Ozzman. I don't have rattles either, but I'm willing to sign a petition if it'll help you guys out.
That being said, I don't think it will help much in the end. Soopa is right. Honda doesn't like the negative publicity of a recall. That's probably why they never responded to TL/CL owners trying for the same thing.

For those without rattles:
Play music with strong bass or drive over roughly paved roads, roads that are louder surfaces than any other paved road you've been on.

PS: If you don't want to know that you have rattles, don't do the above.

Because they dont know how. I have been in a couple times, wasted 8 hours of my life waiting..for NO improvements. I have also not heard of 1 case where the dealer successfully fixed one of these door panel rattles.

Other than that 3100 miles and my TSX is still tight as a drum

Ah - ok ... that does suck for sure (trust me ... just wasted 2 hrs of my life to take 5 minutes of DMV's time for a license renewal ... sheesh). I have only heard a single rattle in the right door at very loud bass volumes and to be quite honest it is hard to hear cause the music is so loud

for those of you with the jack johnson "brushfire fairytales" album...put track 7 in and play...the rattles will become louder than the song itself...try this...well, actually, it might just get you more pissed...but hey ignorance is not bliss...

Any time my volume is over 16 and the bass is normal or higher rattle rattle rattle.
I'm in.
Also, count me in for the power seat issue. It doesnt happen often but there is a problem there. A hard slam on the brakes and you can feel the seat jump just a bit in its tracks. :'(
I'm gonna give the dealer a chance to look at these just for kicks when the oil is due for a change.
I'm in so long as we describe this better than just a rattle. Easy response from Honda is, 99% of the car is fine, deal with it. BUT, if we can pin-point the root cause like, defective seal or assembly of x unit contributing to noticeable fatigue in y mechanism attributing to audible noises, well, then we have something to talk about.
My preference, over the rattles, is that stupid design of the sliding arm rest. That "could" create an problem while driving if you aren't aware that it can slide forward with two people's arms on it under braking or acceleration.

So try it out and you can put your name on the list too
I'm in.
I've taken my car in THREE times for various rattles. All were fixed, except the front doorlock bass/rough road issues, which have been ignored by the dealer. The "tap your window down slightly" trick has improved the situation, but then it sounds really bad when I shut the door. Actually, no matter what, it sounds like a baby rattle when I shut the door -- and I want that beautiful solid thud sound that Honda/Acura tried so hard to give it.

I don't have any rattles. But I recently had a problem with my wife's Pilot and I asked Honda to cover it under warranty. Their response was for me to go pound sand. I do not think Honda will do anything unless they are pressured by NTSB. Honda's attitude is: we make great cars, like it or leave it. A petition signed by a few dozen people will not trouble them.
When I'm showing the car to customers, I point out that during heavy bass passeges, the door panels can rattle. If you press on an area, it will go away. I don't know what to tell you guys, but if it was me, I'd take my car to my buddies in the car stereo world. When I was in that business we always had to deal with misx. rattles caused by our 500+ watt systems. Don't get me wrong, it would be great if Acura could come up with a fix, but quite frankly they have little experience with this kind of thing. (It sounds like we need a little foam to hold the locking rods in place.)
Colin, What area do you press on? Do you feel the door panel clips are not doing their job? What is the panel vibrating against?
You seem to be onto the problem already and with your knowledge may be ahead of us.
Give us some info on locations and maybe someone will pull a panel and locate the contact points.
Has anyone pulled the panel and tried driving the car with a passenger to locate a source or to confirm the panel is the source? Just my thoughts...

Yeah, count me in too. I had the same problem and the power seat problem too. Since I am in the professional audio field, I am thinking of doing a frequency sweep to find out which frequency will rattle the door worst. Once I have the result, I'll show it to you guys.

BTW guys, removing the door panel is just a series of clips away. It isn't major surgery.
I've had my TSX for 5 weeks and 1900 miles. Rattles are becoming apparent. First in the headliner on the driver's side. Now on the moonroof, whether open or closed. I will contact dealer soon and will post results. Previous car was a Toyota Camry. Not fun to drive but very solid even after 6 years and 108,000 miles. These Acura rattles are now drawing too much of my attention.
Has anyone else found that the rattles emanating from the doors are due to loose plastic-aluminum trim?? The noises stop when I apply pressure there. If so, there could be a simple fix ...
Edit: For me, the rattles from bass vibrations seem to be coming from the door storage bin wall vibrating. I plan on wedging a piece of high-density foam in there to see if it helps.
Ah hell, I'm just gonna weld the doors shut and "Bo and Luke Duke it" to get in and out.

What concerns me about the rattles is that winter is just around the corner, and new rattles tend to start, and existing ones get worse over the winter. That's certainly been the experience with Canadians who own the Acura EL.
