Post question.

man, i stalled really, really violently today and experienced the biggest pain.

anyways, after stalling, i depressed the clutch and tried starting the engine, but the engine failed to start and made this silent yet screechy sound every time i attempted.

this happened maybe twice? then i took the key out, turned the radio off, the heat off, and my lights then tried turning the engine on, but the screechy sound persisted.

so i waited another minute then proceeded by turning the key then the car finally started. (thank god)

has this ever happened to someone? and/or does any one know why this happened? and what it indicates?

this incident's making me quite paranoid and nervous, -_-. thanks in advanced.

Maybe you should have got the automatic since you can't drive stick that well.

iamhomin,

The same thing happened to me as well. It scared me real good but I never thought about taking it in. It must be some engineering design that has no explanation in the manual. You are forced to remove the key and turn the engine over again. If you get an explanation from your dealer or someone let me know.

You see, the car computer is actually running a special version of Microsoft Windows. It crashed and needed a reboot.

What do you mean by stalling really really violently?
I think the most violent stall I have done is forgetting that I put it in 1st after parking on an incline. I should probably just make it a habit to always do that.

I stalled my car once. I didnt need to take the key out or anything to start it back up.

Does the screechy sounds like when the car is already on, then u turn the key? Is it that noise? If so better get it checked out ASAP!!

any updates on the problem? what did the dealer say. I have noticed the same kind of noise (the noise that comes as if the engine is started and I am trying to start it again) when trying to start the engine. I think have to take it to the dealer ASAP

Thanks

Yes, if it is the distributor then it is covered.

went to the dealer today about the screechy sound. But damn, its not making that sound when he asked me to recreate the problem. Damn. Took an appointment next week to leave it with the dealer so they can try and recreate it and fix it may be.

iamhomin, any updates on your problem?

What it sounds like is that the starter pinion could not engage the flywheel to start the car (starters still work this way don't they?). So you had the starter pinion (a gear) rubbing on the edge of the flywheel and the starter motor running, thus the screech. Don't repeat this, not good for your starter pinion.

Now why, exactly, this would happen from a stall I'm not sure. Maybe the flywheel didn't get to a normal resting position because of the stall and the pinion couldn't engage. Dunno. Not sure why taking the key out would make a difference either. A roll forward or back with the clutch engaged would, however.

Seems like Kurt or Clutch Performer could offer some insight here.

BTW, I'm a manual noob and I haven't violently stalled it (I don't stall at all anymore). The stalls I had were very mild. What did you do to make it violent? And what is violent? Big lurch?

Oh man, this happened long, long time ago, I'm surprised to even see this thread alive.

my_acura_tsx, the screeching sound only happened after my "violent" stall, again, I was making careless mistakes while driving stick (Which I don't anymore )
It never happened there after.

Also, I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say, the screech didnt happen on a regular basis, only that one time, sorry to inform you without any sort of insight.
