UPDATE: I called Acura. I'm apparently still within my original (CPO) warranty, which goes until Jan 2009 or 55k. This is a good thing, because the kid on the phone was already trying to get out of doing the repair if I was out of my original warranty, even though I pointed out that it was a documented problem in the 2004 and that the PCB's warranty ran through 7 years or 100k.

Hopefully they confirm the issue and order the PCB when I take my car in on Friday, and I get my car fixed next week some time.

I have a 2004 TSX with navigation and my lights went out somewhere around 79,000 miles. This stinks.

I procrastinated and blew off the dealership appointment since I hate leaving my TSX anywhere for the day/overnight. The lights haven't gone completely yet, it's still a sporadic failure. I have until 70k and don't put that many miles on my car so I'm not in that much of a rush to get it fixed until the console completely dies.

yes. i got navi and it got replaced 4 times. and they replaced the whole unit with homelink. they say is the circuit board issue. poor design. now is fine.

nowadays, most car mfr are down grade in quality, they want quanity instead of quality so u get a new one sooner and they make money on the parts and labor after the sale. that is y the cars are cheap now. my next car is lexus.

My lights on my AC and center console are starting to flicker and dim. I am affraid that the whole thing is about to go out soon. My car is at the dealer tonight and the dealership told me they haven't confirmed the issue. I hope they order that PCB replacement board so that way I won't have to worry about this issue.

My lights went out today. I guess it was good it happened at 90,000 miles, before the extended warranty expired. I called the local dealer, and they told me they should have the replacement part tomorrow. I hope the A/C isn't next.

Well, my lights just went out today. '04 with 65k miles and navigation. I started car and noticed the display with temperature/clock was really dim, after about 5 minutes of driving it was completely dark. Went home parked in garage and turned on lights (since it was still light out) and sure enough the entire center console is out except for the nav.

You can add me to the list for yes-no nav. This '04 of mine is definately non-Honda like. So far, the radio unit was swapped in '04, had the clutch m/c and pedal assembly changed, the A/C compressor grenaded last summer, it burns ~1L of oil every 1500km and now no radio lights.

Arek can you let me know what dealer in Toronto you had do your work? I'd like to start with a dealer that recognizes the US TSB.

All Fixed

So I stopped by Acura Sherway yesterday, and they were well aware of the issue and said they ususally stock the PCB for the repair. Dropped the car off this morning and it was done 1.5 hrs later.
Everything looks good now.

I started having this issue around the 90k mark. Does anyone know the cost of this repair?

If you have less than 100,000 miles, the repair should be free. Acura extended the warranty to 7 years/100,000 miles for this issue.

Just lost my center console lights. non-navi, its an 04 with 52K miles.

I really hope the dealer will fix this issue without any hassles since there is a TSB.

Agravating, and expected more from my first acura. These lights are not the first things to go on my car. :-(

So far the only lights that have gone out on my car are the ones for the AC and the lights to where the CD's get inserted but everything else still lights up. Is this a problem with a fuse or do I need to get the PCB replaced?

I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago. I had one row of the instrument lights go out (the row with the fan speed, AC, etc.) plus the two little lights at either end of the CD insert slit. I have 68K miles and have not had any similar problems before. So, I had no expectations that it would be that old nemesis, the control card for the Audio/ Heater/AC. But when I took it to the dealer, sure enopugh that was it. Apparently I had only a minor variation of the card failure, but it still had to be replaced. They did it for me, no charge, on an Acura extension of the warranty. Took two days, one to diagnose and order the part, and another day to get the part shipped in and installed. Drove a loaner MDX for two days > WAY TOO BIG A VEHICLE. [Should be outlawed!]

I just got two circuit boards to my car replaced last week and it had just reached 64,000 miles. I am glad that I didn't have to pay a penny for the repair

I bought my 2004 tsx (non-navi) in September 2004. The car now has 93,000 miles on it. Its worked perfectly until just right now. I got in the car, turned on the lights this morning, and no center-stack lights. The buttons for the AC and radio/CD etc. were not on. The LCD screens for both the radio and AC unit were just fine, it was the buttons that were unlit. BUT, after 5-10 minutes after driving, they just came on suddenly. I pull into my work, turn on and off the lights a few times and now the buttons light up just fine.

Should i have this replaced for free before I reach the 100,000 mile mark?? will a dealership do this even though they cannot duplicate the problem?

thanks for all your help.

ARG! the dealership just said that they MUST be able to duplicate the problem (even though it goes on and off for me) If it doesn't fail permanently in the next 7,000 miles, i'm screwed.

^ Hopefully it won't take too long for them to fail completely. Mine went on and off a couple times and then were fine for a while before dying for good. Even after 100k, hopefully they would goodwill it for you, especially since it is a well known problem with a TSB.

thanks for the support. It just dawned on me that I do have a 3 megapixal camera/video recorder in my pocket all the time (ie - new cellphone). I can always take pictures and video of the issue when it happens and send it to them. I'll document the crap out of this issue in case it completely dies after the 100k mark.

looks like their TSB for this issue has been updated to 105,000 miles. I just saw the service guy pull up the TSB and the one on his screen says 7 yr, 105,000 (not 100k).

Anyway, they had the part in stock and replaced it. I won't REALLY be able to check the issue until tonight. I don't know, i have a funny feeling about this. I put my hand over the buttons and such and I can't see any of the buttons lit. I went under a bridge which was really dark for 2 seconds with the lights on and it the buttons were either really dim, or not lit at all. Again, only one way to really check is to check when the sun goes down tonight.

BTW, it is fully covered - $0.00.

Well that worked out, huh?

When I had mine replaced, I was pretty annoyed. The dealership I go to is almost an hour away. I had to make several trips back and forth because the first board they received was also faulty, so they had to put my old one back in and order another one, while I drove around for several days/nights with no lights. Annoying. Hopefully they checked yours before sending you on your way.

Then a month later, the A/C started acting up and I had to make several trips back and forth for that, because they couldn't find the problem. I lived with no A/C for 3 weeks in the middle of summer!

yeah, i have that feeling, luvmytsx. I just really have this feeling that either A) they had a"dim" one from another faulty unit lying around or B) the one they had was also faulty and/or a refurb.

i'll let you know tomorrow.

ok, so quick update as promised. The PCB that they put in is working 100%. Everything looks just the way it is supposed to. I must say, that was the quickest fix for any problem i've ever had for any vehicle.

Driving in the morning at 6am, no lights...call the dealership at 8:30 am and get an appointment for 11:30am. Out by 1:30 pm with a new PCB. $0.00 later

On another note, these guys had service hours that were rediculous...They were open from 8am to midnight monday through friday and extended hours on the weekends. Its got to be because they're leaning on the service department to stay afloat during these tough times.

Center console lights dimming & intermittant

I too have had this problem and was advised that it was a warranty issue with this make and model. I had a new one replaced under warranty and now I have the problem again. I have just been advised that it WON'T be covered. I am finished with Acura and Honda Canada! I like their vehicles but hate their service!

Are you under 105,000 miles?

Also, whenever you have something replaced with a new part, that part is ALMOST ALWAYS covered for an additional 1 year, 12,000 miles.

Try another dealer, or call Acura client services to see if they will help you.

Unhappy This Sucks

I have an 04 with 144K Miles on it (yeah it's a lot!)and the HVAC Lights went out this morning. Theres no chance I will be able to qualify for the warranty work. And I don't have $1500 to spare.

chhimp, you said you replaced your wife's PCB easily? Can a regular person change it out and about how much time would it take from start to finish? I personally have built a few computers and work as a Slot Machine Technician. I also do my own minor tune ups, if that helps any.

$34.13 PCB + $7.00 Shipping + $125 Core Deposit sounds a lot better. I'm sure there are others out there that are in the same situation I'm in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had my the center console go out a while ago, and the dealer fixed, no problem. Last night I noticed the lights on the sides of the radio (AM/FM, etc) were dimm, as well as the circles behind the knobs are dimm (and possibly a different color), the buttons for staions (1, 2 ...) all still are fine, as is the display. Has anybody had a problem like this?

118k here, 04 TSX purchased in '03. My lights went out a few months back and came back for a while and then recently since it's winter and gets dark out fast now, I recently noticed my lights are completely out and haven't come back, annoying indeed.
