yeah, it should be covered under a new extended warranty. 7 years or 100,000 miles...

I received the letter in the mail a few weeks back.. says if the lights go dim/out on the center console (radio and or hvac display) - especially when the headlights are turned on. please bring the vehicle in and they will replace some printed wiring board (don't quote me on this, don't have the letter in front of me.. I can confirm once I get home)

I have a '04 6MT, no nav.. and i have noticed that during the day.. my hvac display is VERY hard to read when i have the lights on.. I don't remember it being like this.. it looks okay at night... anyone else experience this? I'm wondering if I should bring it in... the nearest dealer is 1hr away though

oh, the letter also came with a re-imbursment form... for those of you who paid to get their center console lights fixed prior to this "recall" they will pay you back what you've already paid! I like seeing that Acura is standing behind their products once there is reasonable believe that there is a problem... now my only concern is the AC going out! so far so good.... Maybe they'll issue a recall on that too

I'm not sure what to tell you, because I know when mine went out, they were OUT, as in could not see the lights at all whatsoever. Maybe they're on their way out? I know mine flickered a few times a few months before they went out completely.

Ah, that explains it. You didn't mention it was a salvage. That sucks.

My whole centre console is out :(

Hello,

First time poster, occasional lurker here.
I have a 2004 TSX, and my whole centre console - including the clock on the top - didn't come on this morning. Radio and ac/heat controls seem to be working.

I've read this whole thread. And before I go to a local dealer, I want to ask you guys a few questions.
I'm in Toronto, ON, Canada. My odometer reads 95000km. Considering all this, I wanted to be prepared in case the dealer tries to charge me for the repair - which I'm almost sure they will (just my luck...). I have printed the TSB, but it's by American Honda. I can already hear the dealer saying that it does not apply to Honda Canada.
Is there something concrete I can say/show them that would prove that this TSB is valid in Canada and they HAVE to honor it? Or do they?

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks, but for some reason I'm not allowed to send PMs, maybe because it's a new account.
I still haven't found "Dan Martin" in this thread, but I noticed there were quite a few others (dom, gogozy, shitbox, joelh86, BurnabyTSX, Magicking, majormojo, TerryK, curls, Kanon23, PinkyLV, Metal_Driver) from Canada who chimed in. PinkyLV even mentioned receiving a letter from Acura about the extension of warranty on this.
I would really appreciate if some Canadians could respond to this!

I think it will get a bit annoying if I just keep bumping this thread just to get to 30 posts, eh?
That's why I'm hoping some of the people I mentioned see this. I'm especially curious what's this letter that PinkyLV mentioned.

Well, I think you should try calling your dealer, telling them about your problem and that you know there's an extended warranty for it, and see what they say. They should just say ok and make an appointment for you. That way you don't have to wait for someone to reply to you here.

I do intend to call, but I was hoping that someone could confirm that in fact it's official and Acura does cover this in Canada, in case the dealer gave me a run-around, which I feel will be their first reaction. So at least I'd have some good, concrete info to back it up other than the American TBS.
But I guess I'll call first and see, I don't really want to wait too long with it.
Wish me luck!

You should have no problem getting them to warranty it. All dealerships know about it and they get paid via Acura Canada, not you, so it's no real pita for them. Call and ask the service advisor. If he/she says its not warrantied, then ask to speak to the service manager. If he/she says its not warrantied, reply back here and I'll try to find my letter from Acura Canada, and scan it for you.

cheak the dvd for finger print or scratches. Make shure that the anteni is not covered.

Its a common problem with the accord and the tsx. There is a circuit board that over heat and burn out. The new ones is thicker and better insulated.

here in Dallas went to David McDavid and we are having our 04 TSX fixed with concerns to the time/temp display above the navigation.

Recalled and fixed for free. Currently driving an 08 TL as the loaner.

All fixed....under the extended warranty. Not a penny out of my pocket, and I got to have a loaner for the weekend. Well, supposingly only for Saturday, but when I picked up the car Saturday night, the nav screen wasn't working. So they kept my car over the weekend inside their garage , and I kept the loaner over the weekend.

When I turn on my headlights, the center console illuminates except for the lower half of the climate control buttons (Temp, auto, circulate...) Just want to make sure before I take it into the stealership. This is the problem in the TSB correct? I have a used 04 with 48500K miles. This should be covered under warranty right? Thanks.

Well... I just made an appointment and the service guy sounded like he knew nothing about this problem... at first I just told him my button lights go dim/dark after 30 seconds and stays off when I turn on my headlights. He goes "Hmm..thats weird"....I proceed to mention a "service bulletin" and he quickly says "oh, that audio-hvac could or couldn't be the problem and we have to take it in for a day to see" (a whole day to turn on the headlight and see it go dim?)...owell what can i say, just have to go in and let them look...If they make me pay, next stearlership here I go...

Well, I went to the dealer and was going to wait for them to do the repair. About 1-1/2 later, the service advisor came to me saying that their replacement PCB was defective. They sent a guy to pick up another board from a different dealer, so he gave me a loaner instead of me waiting. That was around 12 noon Saturday when I left with the loaner. The service advisor called me at around 3:30pm saying that my car was done. So I went to pick it up at 4:45pm (15mins before they close). When I started the car, the display and the buttons were fixed, but the nav screen didn't work. So I immediately told the service advisor, and he pulled the car back into their garage. But since they only had about 10 minutes before closing, they decided to keep my car there and let me take the loaner for the weekend. They fixed the problem early Monday morning though.

My lights went out on saturday night. I took the car by at 8:00 this morning and by 9:30 the service manager was calling to let me know it was ready. They told me up front that Acura had extended the warranty. It was hassle free. Now I'm ready for 5:00 so someone can take me to pick it up.

If you read back through the pages, you'll see that it's covered by an extended warranty. Acura knows they have a problem with this part. You should be good to go for free.

16,500 miles in 3 years 3 months and ours went out.

Took it into the dealer and they fixed this under warranty with no questions asked; Acura extented the warranty for this problem.

I'd ask if they'd goodwill the repair. Afterall, they do know they have a big problem with this part, and asking doesn't hurt.

yes i have very high milage, probably the highest for an 04 in the country!

and yes, the entire factory navigation system, LCD screen, wiring, dvd drive, gps receiver, all costs 2000 brand new. but if one, ONE component of that breaks, the dvd drive, it costs 4000 dollars. 4K for the dvd drive only. i was furious. i ended up having to by a 2006 dvd drive from a honda accord (or 2006 tsx actually) from ebay, and install it myself. did it for under a grand.
