100,500 miles and the console lights finally went on me. I called the dealer and they said the recall indicates they will replace it up to 105,000 miles and after that it is goodwill only. Of course, they might have just said that because I do all my service through them and reminded them of that fact. =)

So my console lights went out around 40K (I have an 04 with navi) and the dealer fixed. But now I'm at almost 60K and the stupid lights are flickering and going out AGAIN! I am so pissed because it appears the dealership did not correct the problem in the first place. They may have put in a refurbished console in my car. What a waste of time!?! Do you think they will fix it for me again? I have a right to be pissed off, no?

Has this happend to anybody else, where you had to go in a few times to get this issue fixed?

I got the console lights fixed a couple of months ago, and now the buttons on the console don't light up sometimes (if I hit a bump the go on/off). Does anyone think a wire got pinched when they worked on it orignally?

Just to be clear... the radio and HVAC lights still work, but the buttons AROUND those displays don't always light up now.

Lights went out at about 30K and were replaced by the dealer (I believe they replaced the console).

Major accident got me a new console last year... and the lights have gone out again at 25K after the new console.

Do I have any leverage with the dealer? What should be said?

Fixed

Update: I went to the dealer with a copy of the TSB in my pocket and just asked them to fix it on them. When they claimed it would have to be "good will" to be free I mentioned there was a TSB on the part. When they claimed that did not mean a recall I mentioned that the warranty had been extended, so it was clearly an issue.

30 minutes later the part was covered. BTW... it does not hurt you to test drive a car in the showroom to show you are still an interested Acura buyer... they may want to make the fix for you just so you remain an Acura buyer.

NOW... let me tell you the 2009 TSX is quite unlike the current model... it is a hotter car than the current TL. The 2009 TSX has my attention, but I want to see what the upgrade to the TL is before I bite. Shop the TSX against the six cylinder Accord.

Here's a tip: If you get this fix done, make sure they give you the new radio code! IT WILL BE DIFFERENT THAN THE OLD ONE!

I had to call my dealership at 11:55am last Saturday, right before the service dept. closed, because the old radio code didn't work... luckily they brought up my history via my phone number and saw I had the TSB done for the HVAC lights/radio, and gave me the new code over the phone with a few button presses on my part.

Really? Ugh. Guess I better get that new code.

I have an 04 TSX with 70,400 miles and the AC lights, radio lights, and clock light finally went out. I also have an after market HU. How much is it to just order the board and repair it yourself. The instruction seems simple enough? My Vin # ends with 22204

Have you asked your dealer to look at replacing the PCB board? The warranty on that part was extended to 7 years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first). Unless they blame the aftermarket HU... but I hope they don't.

My wife made an appointment for Monday. If they blame it on the stereo, my wife will give them hell. I will post updates after Monday.

I found website where you can order the part for $34.13 plus $7.00 shipping. Go to http://www.OEMAcuraParts.com Search for P/N 3917A-SEC-A01RM for Acura TSX 2004 Audio-HVAC non-illuminating buttons and display. Repair for service bulletin 04-021. I will let you guys know if it is the right part when it arrives. This is the last resort if Acura doesn't cover under warranty. But it is good to know it doesn't cost an arm or leg to replace..

The part requested requires a core exchange. The core charge of $125 is refundable when the old part is returned to them.

My tsx got 94000. The console was fixed once already about 3 years ago @ 30,000. They said that Acura won't cover it any more and were pointing to the letter 'C' across to the TSB on their computer screen. Anything I can do or ask them to do for me? They charge a lot for that, but driving withut it is inconvenient.

Try talking to the service manager. If that doesn't help, call Acura's customer service line and see if they can do something. If I'm not mistaken, I believe this part is covered for 7 years/100,000 miles now due to the TSB.

Odds are, 3 years ago they did not have the improved PCB. So they replaced the PCB with another faulty designed one.

The part is warrantied until 7yrs/100,000mi... regardless of if it was replaced once or twenty times before.

I'm still concerned about the part, though. Last year when I had mine replaced, the first PCB they sent didn't work - the lights came back on, but then the radio and CD player didn't work. They had to overnight another one for me, and I had to drive around for a couple days with no music. So in short, I don't think it's really "fixed" anyway.

I finished my DIY PCB replacement. Piece of Cake.
Non-Nav board

the board is burnt

underneath the burnt area

A remanufactured board with thermal pad.
All the 2004 will have this problem. All they did was add a thermal pad to the replacement. Now it's time to send the old board back for my $125 core deposit.

That is because there were 2 versions of the board, and they had used the wrong version on yours.

thanks to that TSB, I just had mine repaired yesterday at no cost. I contacted Honda of America and they notified me that my vin fell under that 100K/7 year warranty on the issue (at 94k, just in time). I had the TSB in hand and showed my service advisor (he has always taken care of my car since the day I purchased it). With no questions asked he had the car repaired.
I was given a 2nd Gen TSX as a loaner for a few hours, it has alot of nice amenities, plush interior, smoother ride, and a whole lot of torque. The front grill is starting not to bother me as much, but I don't think I'm going with Acura again for my next purchase. With the clutch creaking problems, door locks sticking, and the center console lights, I'm really starting to questions the reliability of Acura. I love my 1st Gen, but it's costing me alot to keep her .

I sure wouldn't buy a 2009, but I think if you wait till 2011 things should be better reliability-wise. After my experience with my 2004, I wouldn't buy a first year model again.

This happened to me yesterday while at a gas station. Smoke started coming out of the center vents and there was a distinct burning smell. I'll be going to the dealer Monday to see what they have to say.

Mine just went out this morning! Call up the dealer and told them what the problem I have. I printed out the TSB and also the mailer that Honda sent out about the "WARRANTY EXTENSION:2004 TSX AUDIO UNIT DISPLAY", paper. It says they extended the warranty up to 7 yrs or 100,000 miles. I really hope my concern falls into this TSB. I have no radio, hvac, nor clock lights. Everything works just no lights. I have a '04 TSX with 56k. I scheduled my app. for thurs. I'll keep u posted as 2 what they find.

72,000 Just went out. Dice installed-any warranty issues with that?

I received a letter a while back but didn't have the issue. Now I have it but also have an iPod adapter attached with a y connector. Anyone else get this done with the iPod connected? Did you have to remove it before you brougth it for repair to. Concerned that they could blame the mod for the issue and not do the work.

04 Auto TSX navi 87,500 miles

My clock/radio display light went out, but the rest of the lights around navi still work. Going to dealer tomorrow so they can diagnose it with TSB in hand.

Just call them and tell them what the problem is, and that you know about the TSB addressing this problem. They'll have you come in, diagnose, and fix it. Shouldn't be anything special you have to do and your mod shouldn't affect anything.

PCB = printed circuit board

I drive an 04 6MT no navi with just a hair under 50k miles. The center console lights have been iffy for months, but the last couple of days, they're more or less fading in and out visibly as I drive around, so it's safe to assume they're going to die completely in the near future. As I'm only at 50k miles I'm optimistic that I'll have no issues getting this replaced under warranty by Acura. I'm going to call the dealership about it.
