My center console lights went out a second time at about 96,000 Miles. Still havn't gone to the dealership though...do you think they will replace it again free of charge although my warranty ran out at 75,000 Miles?

rx280 -> bit of bad luck ey?

im sure u have one dealership that you trust with ur car rite?

this is a bs problem considering how many ppl are falling victims to this issue and the fix is also costly and complicated too

for me i had the feeling that it could be my jump start of my battery that could be the likely culprit but that's hard to say unless other people were also in the same situation and had the same outcome

Question: if my light goes on and off does that mean its only wiring problems and not the console problem?

I've got an '04 Non-Navi 5AT TSX and just today, at 45,555 miles, my console lights went out. Needless to say, it definitely reassures me that this is a problem with quite a few '04's and not just mine.. TSX boards to the rescue, again!

Yes 04 non-Nav

So I had mine replaced at around 55k as goodwill. Which means diddly to me since I think they should be replacing these anyways. They told me "just this once" they'll do it. Anyhow, now it looks like my girlfriend saw some flickering while I was driving. 61k miles now. Hopefully they'll replace it again if it goes out.

Quick question: Don't you can your warranty extended for the part replaced starting from the day that the part was installed? Or is that only if you actually purchase it and not get it as warranty fix? I would think the warranty extension would apply.... Anyone know?

I got my car in August of 03, its an auto 04 with Nav. The lights on mine went out yesterday and the car is currently at 45K. I didn't realize how much I use that display for the time till now. I'm pissed b/c they should have had a re-call or something on this. I don't want to deal with taking the car in for who know's how long. The dealership I use is in Sunnyvale, CA and they never really give out loaners so I may be stuck with a crappy rental.....arhhhhhh!

This is really starting to worry me. My warranty will run out somewhere before 40K miles. 78 people having this problem is NOT good.

78 people that we know of, Probly closer to 2 or 3,000 in reality. I'd be worried if I were you too.

Aren't you? This is an expensive proposition if out of warranty and the dealer doesn't do it as good will. Its clearly a problem.

Could you guys post your TSX's month of manufacture? It would help us pinpoint a trend and a cutoff manufacturing date for the faulty component.

Already had mine done. Hopefully, the re-engineered radio doesn't have this problem.

I have an '04 non-navi. I had mine go out at 46K. Just had them replaced yesterday. When i got home i noticed that the driver side heated seat light was out. I cant win. It was a whole ordeal just to get the center lights fixed. I dont want to waste my time on the heated seat light, but it will eventually get on my nerves. Has anyone else had this problem? I guess i am just going to wait untill my warrenty is about to exprire bf i get this new problem fixed....

Posted a long explanation asking for help/suggestions in another thread, but for tracking here, I just had this problem.

My 04 TSX 6MT (no navi) was bought in July 2003. It is now 40 months old (4 months out of warranty) and has 59,000KM on it (just under the 60k).

So far, my dealership (Southview Acura in Edmonton, AB, Canada) has said they won't warranty it. I've asked them to call Acura for goodwill, will let you know! At the moment, I have more faith in Acura than in my dealership -- hope to be proven wrong!

*fingers crossed*

My lights went out 12/9/2006. I'm the second owner of a AT/non-Nav 2004 with 80K purchased June 2003 by original owner. What is the year/month of the TSB that people refer to?

First off, my TSX is tons of fun and I love it. I have no plans to buy from another manufacturer going forward, but let's see how this experience plays out.

2004, 6MT, Non-Navi, VIN ending 7123, not sure month/year built (not sure how to tell), 2nd owner of this vehicle, I bought it in Jan of '06. Lights conked out last weekend when I swithed from CD to Radio. Clock, digital CD display, and HVAC digital lights still work. All other controls are blacked out--knobs, buttons, and bars. I thought I was going crazy. Googled and found this wonderful community. Mileage is 37,800 plus change--still under warranty, thank goodness.

I printed the TSB (thanks for providing), and I called dealer today. They say they need a prelim appt to diagnose, then they'll order and receive replacement unit if necessary, and schedule a seperate appt to install.

My question is: The TSB specifically says, "If a client calls ahead to schedule an appt, and the vehicle is in the affected VIN range (which mine is), order the remanufactured audio unit right away so it is available when the client comes in."

I'm under warranty, so why would they make me come in for a prelim appt? Shouldn't they abide by the TSB? It's a 1/2 hour install that's going to drag on for two or more weeks, including multiple trips to and from the dealership.

I'd like to press the issue, but I'd love to hear this forum's opinion first. From the dealer's point of view, am I being unrealistic somehow? How seriously do they take these TSB's?

i felt the same way and told my dealer that. they ended up ordering it before i brought the car in and it was done the same day. if they are not listing to acuras own tsb its because they probably don't trust that you know what you are talking about.

Follow-up question: When I take the car in for the lights-out problem, will the dealer give me crap for an aftermarket intake and try to say it voids the entire warranty?

Yes.. 04 w/o Navi.... went out at 51,300 but the dealer did a goodwill exchange.

Only problem was, the radio module was on national back-order & it took 3 weeks to come in.

Questions

This hasn't happened on my 04 TSX yet. But, it almost sounds like it is inevitable. Does everything still work even though the lights are out? Is it all the lights or can you still see the temperature setting, radio channel etcetera?

everything works fine is just that the brightness of the lcd panel is dim and depending on the angle, you'll be able to see it faintly in the sunlight

the buttons all around the console like the vents and the air con controls arent lit anymore

i think its a simple problem, just unfortunately no one has figured it out yet

i remember someone being able fix it however the volume was no longer as loud as it used to be though

Mine went out at 37 months and 41,749 miles. There was no warning, blinking, or dimming. I just started the car one morning and they were out.

Acura had my car for 3 days. I provided the TSB and of course the radio was replaced under warranty. My SA indicated the new part was a different part number and was perhaps an updated or "fixed" part.

I just hope this does not happen again out of warranty.

This hasn't happened to me either but i was curious if anyone has tried to take it in and said that they had flickered or went off for a short time and came back on in attempts to get it replaced just in case prior to your warranty running out! I would really hate to have this happen to me after my warranty is up and just thought i would ask if anyone had tried something like that.

I did that last week! Ironically, I was on my way to the dealer to leave the car for an oil change. On the way there, the lights flickered for a good 3-4 minutes. I quickly ejected all my CDs in case I wouldn't be able to get them if the unit needed to be replaced. The lights ended up never going out completely, but I asked them to look at it while it was there. They said it didn't do anything when they road-tested it, so there was nothing they could do. I'll be really mad if this thing goes out after my warranty.

Haha, nice! Yea i figured they would do anything for it unless it was out, i just figured i would see if anyone tried it and was succesful in high hopes! When i had the headlight condensation they tried to reproduce the problem by leaving my car in the car wash for 20 mins (see my other thread rant on that one...lol) so this would probably be the same type of case. Good luck with yours holding out after your warranty is up.

Oh jeez, I remember that. I had the condensation too, but it was taken care of right away with no questions asked.

I really wish they had a definite fix for the headunit and issue a recall for it. I've heard of several people who have had theirs fail more than once, which really sucks. I don't want that problem.

2004 TSX, no Navi had the center console go out twice; once at about 20k and once at about 30k. Both times, the entire unit was replaced.

04 TSX w/Navi at 30k

So far my 04 TSX w/Navi is just over 30k and I haven't had any issues with the center console lights.

My only issue so far was the driver's auto door lock failed at around 25k. The dealer replaced the solenoid under warranty.

I got no love from my 04 TSX MT w/ Navi ~ 26,500 mi, mine went out on Valentines Day. I made an appointment on Friday for Monday and Mike Harvey Acura in Burligame fixed it the same day. Great quick service. I hope it doesn't go out again.

Must Read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine went out last weekend i got it fix today free cause the service rep said that acura figures out that it was a circuit board that cause the problem. 2004 satin silver 89,000, service rep said that the repair is extended to vechiles up to 100,000miles.

^^ Now, that IS good news and it gives me some piece of mind that Acura will take care of it even after my original warranty runs out in December.

Ahhhhhhhhhh f*ck.... after 2 years with no problems except for a little flickering one time, my lights finally went out tonight. Took the fam out for Rita's Italian Ice, and noticed on the way back that the interior seemed dark. Looked down, and saw all the lights in the headunit were out. The annoying thing is that I JUST had the car in for its 40k mile service last week....just picked her up Thursday night.
